I need a mystery solving.
A friend of mine has just returned from The Maldives and took this photo somewhere over the Indian Ocean between Maldives and UAE. They were at about 40,000 ft at the time.

My guess is gas rigs or wind farms.

Any regular users of this route got any ideas?

Thanks.

Yep, boats. They're pretty common there, and over towards China area.

Like it! ;)

But how do they get them to fly at 40,000 feet?

Yep. Definitely fishing boats. I have sailed over a lot of the Western Indian Ocean and you find clusters of boats anywhere and everywhere. Some using very bright lights to attract fish, some using dim oil lamps and some completely invisible at night until you are about to run them down when one of them lights-up a cigarette lighter.

I hope those fishermen in those boats don't meet what the chap in this film does :E
