Not surprised. They should have gone for the CSeries, now known as A220.

depends on your calculations. An SSJ for weeks grounded is far more expensive then a C-Series/Mini-Bus flying. The SSJ isn’t that bad, but the service is a nightmare.

Going with the SSJ was a gamble and they lost badly at it. I don't know much about Russian civil aviation aeroplanes but I am aware there isn't many of them around. They don't have the track record that western manufacturers have. The initial buy of the CSeries/A220 might have been higher, but cheaper in the long run. The A220 isn't exempt from issues of course, but not to such an extent. Swiss are doing fine, airBaltic seem to be doing also fine on European routes and they are planning on having an all A220 fleet.

More a 'blip' than an 'era', I would say.

Cheap to buy, not the cheapest to run but unreliable and with horrifically poor support from the mother ship. Having the SSJ or your CV, whether flying, planning or spanning, isn't exactly a gold-plated road to secured employment either.
