Juliet...i went thru medical security check with mam...around may for brisbane positions. I recieved a letter from them last week. the wait may take a while. Is there any way you can check up on whether they have done your reference checks. They might take a little while to respond....the waiting isnt much fun...but hang in there...I know for brisbane group they have done 2 intakes..and the rest of the ones sent to medical stage have either recieved on hold for six months letter or thanks but no thanks.

best of luck hun

Juliet,

I had my interview with Qantas/MAM early this month (July). I have passed my medical and received a call from Maurice Alexander himself saying they would like to put me through training school. That was about 1 week after the interview and I haven't heard anything since. He said he called just to say he wanted to keep me updated on the process. I am also deperately waiting for a letter or call to be told when training starts. Don't panic just yet, I know these things can take a while and although I have been given the green light I can't tell you when things will start. Hang in there sweetie and don't give up.

Dij88.

thank you everyone for replying to my post. it doesn't sound very hopeful for me that a training school will be starting tomorow in sydney and i haven't had a phone call or letter. all the money i have spent on medicals vacinations and the police check out the window. i know my referees have been called. does anyone know if there will be another training school in sydney? :( congratulations to everyone who made it and good luck to anyone still waiting to hear.

Juliet, have faith in yourself, stop listening to everyoue else's advice, No one knows what is going on with YOUR application...
I am going through the same thing, my third interview was 2 weeks ago tomorrow. On my application I wrote that I have to give 2 weeks notice to my current employer.... They looked at my application BEFORE the interview.. If there is only one ground school and it starts tomorrow, then they must know that in order for me to make it to that ground school, I would have had to give my notice to my current employer the day before that interview.... Doesn't make sense does it?? They told us they would call us in a couple of weeks or so. The people at tomorrows ground school must have been told at least 2 weeks ago in order for them to give fair notice to thier current employers, which means that they could not have gone through the interviews with us 2 weeks ago......

Good luck

HI Juliet Juliet,

I don't know about QF but I just finished my training at VB and we had three classes running at the one time, and I think that there are another two this month.

Don't forget that the whole industry is very unpredictable-- all the way down to the recruitment processes. So just hold in there- like Biccy C said you are closer than those who haven't done their medical and ref checks!!!

Just keep the battery on your mobile fully charged and you will be fine.

Hi juliet juliet,

I finished training with QF about 2 months ago and there were 4 classes that overlaped each other during the space of 2 months and each class had 16 students. We were all permenant long haul F/As and there were also about 4 classes of short haul F/As too. QF usually have several classes going through at the same time some overlap and some dont.

My advice is to keep positive because they will call you. Its the best job and you are in.......good luck!!:) :) :)

Have you heard of people already recieving "no letters'? Is this in Sydney or Melbourne? I know about 8 people that have made it through the interview process but havent heard anything at all yet. How sad for all those people that paid for medicals ect once again. :(

I can't shed a lot of light on what's happening with the MAM recruiting but I can tell you what has happened in Brisbane.
The group interviews and 2nd interviews were held in Brisbane at the end of April this year. After the second interview people were given a no immediately or given their medical and security check forms.
Some Brisbane F/A's have been through school in dribs and drabs. No more than twenty to date and that includes the ones in school at the moment.
Last week after waiting all this time, some poor people got letters of rejection, whilst others got waitlist letters. A large percentage still haven't heard either way.

AUSTRALIAN INFO

FACT: It generally takes on average 3 weeks to run a security check so if you haven't heard from Australian yet think of when you mailed back your form.

FACT: Australian Airlines is operating two daily services in it's first month of operation. The other 4 destinations don't begin flying until the end of November. Therefore it makes perfect sense to stagger schools from September through to early November. No point having an excess of workers on the payroll with nothing for them to do.

So stop stressing guys! The Australian Airlines interviewing and recruitment process has been the most professional I have had the pleasure of participating in.
And believe me I have been through many in the last 5 months so I have plenty of experiences for comparison.
GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!!;)

Just a couple of questions out of curiosity…..

Do QF/ MAM make you pay for your medical out of your own pocket????

What exactly are they looking for with the security checks?? Is this in relation to gaining your ASIC id tags???

airborne1
6th Aug 2002, 08:49
I went thru brisbane interviews with MAM. I have just recieved my shortlist letter. I went thru in april and recieved my letter late July. From what I understand with the process, you are assessed throughout the interview stage and awarded points. So points are accrued during the group interview as well as during the individual interview...points are also awarded for the psyche test. They then add all your points together to get top percentages. The higher percentages go thru the first couple of training schools...then the next level get shortlist letters...and then the lower levels get the no letters.

Just my understanding of process.

Wishing you all luck with MAM jobs those who are waiting.

All the best. Hang in there - airline recruitment is never a quick process...but worth the wait when you secure the job.

Once again...all the best!;)

HI SMILE.
Yes you do pay for medical and security out of your own pocket.
And security checks are to ensure you have not been convicted for destruction of property,on assault charges, drug trafficking, possession etc
And yes you need to have a clean slate to gain your ASIC security card.
Cheers:)

Thanks Cabin Secure,

I was just asking because Virgin covered the costs of both my medical and security check. And it didn't take near as long as described above for my security clearance!!!

Anyway best of luck and congrats to all the QF and MAM people.

bourgeoisie or should that be " sourgeoisie",

qantas crews are cocooned from what the real world wants - i flew mel to syd, dinner flight and was served a cold salad, with no tea/coffee service offered, and another flight, mel to adl, snack flight, again with no tea/coffee service.

errrr, since when did the Qantas crew decide what the pax eat ? I hardly think QF f/a's are to blame for what they serve on each flight, yes ansett meals were great and ansett was a great airline but they didn't decide what the pax ate either....just a thought burgeosie.

smile - i reckon VB must have their own contacts in the federal police to get you guys thru the process so fast, a few vb friends of mine also got their checks completed straight away, is it true they found a conviction for " indecent exposure " on you missy ? :D

GOOD LUCK TO MAM APPLICANTS !

I reckon QF must make a small fortune on those security check cheques!
When I got all the way through & had medicals etc, I sent them a cheque to have my security check done & later got the no letter but didn't get my money back. I know it wasn't a problem with my security check ( I hold an asic card now and held one at the time & have no crim record) Back then it was $34 for the check. Just think how much money they make off of people who don't get a job and therefore don't get the checks done!!

Hello all,
I was extremely grateful when told of this site & recently browsed your thoughts, news, hopes, dreams et*****il I found this site I felt quite isolated & alone(I was constantly wondering if anyone I met during the process had "heard anything" & was unable to find out) as I too have just completed I/V process with MAM in Melbourne & completed medical last week(I hassled the poor Dr to send off my medical info ASAP,and found out that they checked my references only 4/7 after my last interview-24th July.
Eventhough I try and remain positive & open-minded, I could not help but feel very disappointed to hear that after such a long, tough process, there comes bad news for some. There is much speculation, anticipation, frustration & at times disappointment when one aspires to become a flight attendant.During every stage of the process I met some great people, just as driven & passionate to be a flight attendant than me and I looked around the room to see that everyone going through-successful & unsuccessful, had what it takes.I found myself often saying to myself-I hope he/she gets through, especially some of the Ex-Ansett people I met who found themselves having to convince recruiters that they have what it takes to do what they had been doing until they lost their jobs.
No, I have not heard anything yet-I find myself constantly checking my phone & hoping that I don't get that "no"letter.
I t would be nice to hear from anyone from Melbourne recruitment to help make this dreaded waiting period easier???
Good-luck to all who are waitng to hear..lets hope it's good news soon!:) :) :) :) :)

cart tart... just for your info, QF runs every check that is paid for - just cos you dont get the job doesnt mean they dont run the tests, and then keep the money. Its all a matter of public record.

cabin secure, you are wrong about the assault thingy - I have held asic cards for 4 different airlines over the past ten years, and have a (shameful!!) assault charge on my criminal record (pub brawl back when I was 20 !!).... recently asked QF security what stops you from getting ASIC approval, its all drug related/ trafficking/ pornography/ espionage ... so a normal 'country-boy' criminal record wont stop you getting it ;)

10th Aug 2002, 13:23
About that security check...highly unlikely u need a clean slate...know of a girl that got into QF short haul, lost her drivers licence three times, yes "three times" twice from drink driving figure that!!...there'd be a lot less pilots in the air if you had to have a "clean slate".
fingers crossed for you all
Regards Bella :D

I believe that QF have already notified all the unsuccessful applicants through the post. I know 2 people that recieved the "no letter" last Friday.

So I am guessing that if you have still heard nothing since your medical, then it could be good news.

I know of a couple of people in Sydney that recieved the "no thanks" letter late last week. My friend in Melb has already had his ref's checked.

I wouldn't be to concerned if you still haven't heard anything. From what I have heard about QF, it can be a long old process. I knew a girl that didn't hear anything for almost 12 months, but finally she was contacted and now she is a short haul FA.

Goodluck again to all that are waiting...hopefully it will be good news very soon :) :) :)

Hey Guys,

Hang in there, MAM called me today and offerd me a start date late august, but I had to knock it back as I am becoming a Australian F/A and start my cabin crew training with Australian Airlines in Cairns in September, After 4 yrars of trying and my 12th interview for the flight attendant position I was offerd both in the same week it was so hard to have to turn down the MaM offer as I have always had the no letter. Good luck to all of you dont give up keep trying........

Hi Australian Boy,

What was the start date that MAM offered you in August?

Congrats to you, and good luck with Australian. It's really good to hear that after 12 interviews you were successful. That is such an achievment. Well done, you'll love it.

Just curious, but why did you take Australian over MAM?

How r u, well it was a hard decision to have to make as I am all ready Sydney based with Virgin blue as Ground crew, I have always wanted to work for Qantas mainline, but I have a few ex ansett friends (Flight Force) who informed me that some weeks thay only got 1 shift a fortnight etc, as ther is stabillity of hours as it is a casual position, I was offerd the Australian F/A position 1 day befor the MAM position, I have choosen Australian as it is fulltime and longhaul......after all the no letters over the last 4 years it was upseting to have to knock back a Flight Attendant offer. Do u think I should have taken Mam instead look forward to your reply........

Take care

Well done on your position with Australian. Just for your information work allocation with current MAM is quite different to what it was when it was Flight Force. It is entirely allocated by Qantas crewing (not MAM), and I have not had a single day yet where there has been no work available to me. I am also hoping there is truth to the rumors that MAM positions may even be changed to Qantas permanent in the future. You have done well, however, if you need the peace of mind of a permanent job, by accepting the Australian offer - you will be working with a great team many of which I know personally- . Best of luck.

As a MAM casual you virtually create your own roster. You nominate days you will be available throughout the month and days you will not be available. This however is not set in stone and can be modified as the month progresses. You have maximum flexibility and you are even free to change your mind even when crewing offer you work on an available day. If you do not want the duty you can decline. If you accept a duty and then refuse to work it, then, obviously it is frowned upon...and in answer to the other post I am not doing the current AWAS secondment. Hope this helps. Cheers!
