2 options. If you already have your Class I and are worried about losing it... anonymously call up another AME or another general practicioner that can do FAA med exams and ask. If you don't have your class I yet, call any of em and ask. These guys know what is acceptable and what isn't. Even if they don't, they can refer you to someone who can help.

aopa.org will have a list of nearby AMEs, if you don't have a membership there, you might consider it, it's worth it! I've used it quite a bit... kind of like having AAA roadside assistance.

Diagnosed in 1989, worn a hard contact lens ever since.

Recently suffered eye pain which is acute hydrops, very conical cornea and told not to wear hard lens for fear of further damage to the eye.

Only option now is a corneal graft. Not sure if anyone either flying or contolling has needed this radical treatment.

Has anyone re-gained their licence following this.

My advice is to wear glasses or soft lens for as long as possible and trust in an opticial with considerable experience in this field.
