Despite my criticisms of the program[s], it is a positive that it is it being employed in it's innate environment...

It is not what this aircraft was created for. Dropping expensive munitions on impoverished peasants could be done more effectively by an A-10 or something even simpler.

I believe the term coined by RAF bomber crews during WW2 is "Piece of Cake"...well apart from only having the one prime mover, I would imagine ..

You forget that A/Stan is the live bombing range where the USMC will test the F-35B and note its strengths and weaknesses.

So nothing to do with stealth then.

The F-35s launched from the Navy assault ship USS Essex sailing on the Indian Ocean.

Plus you can't lob an A-10 off a carrier

Probably could, with a JATO assist. However, I don't think the A-10 is comfortable when given a salt water spray, which happens when on carriers.
More broadly, it is wrong to see Afghanistan as the modern day equivalent of the Spanish civil war, because there is no learning taking place.
The conflict has been going on so long we are getting new troops that were born after the war began, yet nothing changes.
The US is still bombing peasants at huge expense ( $100/gallon delivered jet fuel just a minor factor ) and remains surprised they are not loved.
