bringing urine and blood tests results for the initial class1

Hello everyone,

I have an appointment for the initial class1 soon, and the medical examiner asked me to bring along blood and urine results. However they didn't specify which items I needed to get checked. They just said complete tests, and it is quite complicated to contacted them now to ask. Does anyone knows what is required in these kind of tests for the inicial class1

There are literally hundreds of things that can be tested for.

You're sort of entering the realms of "screening" here, and to be honest, blood and urine tests, in isolation aren't always helpful.

Usually, the tests follow the presenting complaint, and the history/examination. I'm assuming, in your case, you are fit and well, so there is no presenting complaint.

I should imagine if you rocked up with a fbc (full blood count), lft (liver function test), u+e's (kidney), HBA1c (average blood sugar), cholesterol then you may be somewhere on the right mark.

Not sure about urine. Do they want a drugs screen, maybe just a "dipstick" (urinalysis)

The problem with this approach, is that you could reveal an "artefact" - an abnormal result on paper, but of no clinical significance,

Think the best advice, is recontact them and ask exactly what they require.

Surely there is a reasonable chance that the medical examiner meant he should bring along any results he already has in his possession?
You can't second guess a blind test or else where do you stop. Many LFTs, for example, do not include a GGT test these days. GGT however, could be of interest to a CAA medical examiner?
Turn up naked and prepare to be pricked accordingly.

A number of pilots used to get their GP to do blood tests and ECGs before their renewals - they knew what was needed and the GP did it on the NHS......
The CAA quite rightly stamped on it as it was open to skullduggery. You could bring along someone else's urine, use an ECG done years before, or get a bent nurse to send off someone else's blood
If a regulator is allowing this I am disappointed. nobody is claiming all doctors, nurses and pilots are dishonest, but we only need one case to put lives at risk

An AME that does not take blood and urine for initial Medical on the spot, is not flowing procedure, is he.
If it has to be sent away to approved lab, so be it.
But seriously....

When checked for TB, I had to go to specialist , but that was on AMEs specific order.
( The old Dr chap treated my dear dad in 1952, as it turned out!)

My slight dyslectic tendency ,on the other hand was never uncovered by any AME !
Now answer my question, Please.

Can an Initial Medical be done by any AME. Just curious as I did mine at the Norwegian CAA Flymedisinsk Institut in Oslo in 1988.
They had the University of Oslo Medical Faculty resources next door, so just bring cash and let it flow,,,,,,

I dont think they are going to use it as a substitute of their tests. I believe the reason behind asking me to bring them along,is to have some previous record. In these eastern european countries class 1 medicals are mainly performed by military personnel.
