Don‘t know how this will work with certain AD egos....

It’s biggest ongoing issue which will be the death at it as some point is it’s order book of over 150 aircraft, that it does not want, can not afford, and cannot cancel.

I really don’t see another option. They don’t want to grow any bigger from where they sit currently, but they have this gigantic lease bill about to crush them.

Better get moving, the unwanted dash 10 is on the production line already.

I can't imagine the guys next door closing down the base and moving all operations to Dubai.. There are too many egos involved! As the article says the base would have to be in a single location in order to take advantage of the hub model. This would be a huge mess. On the other hand, a bankruptcy would be an even bigger mess, so a merger would at least allow some people to save face.

If only there was somewhere to put a huge new airport somewhere between Dubai and Abu Dhabi....

Who doesn’t want the dash 10? All aircraft welcomed to replace the old expensive technology...

It'd never work, they'd have to build a huge multi lane freeway between the 2 cities and connect it to this airport as well....

I assume they mean that there will be no more need for transit via the ME due to the increase in range and payload in the new equipment.

That would be a merger and airline mergers are messy! Ask any senior Canadian, Australian or Swiss and they will tell you stories.
But it would be good news for the competition, as the rivalry between the locals with their hyperbolically inflated egos will make them eat each other alive.
To mitigate the bloodshed they will have to install double post-holders for every administrative position above loo-cleaner. One for ex-EY, one for ex-EK and logically enough five secretaries each.
But the most critical question will be which Costa will be the future center of hide and seek.

It will be the best new sitcom for the next few seasons.

Do the GCC co-operate? Are the UAE ever united? And we know what happened to a jointly owned and funded Gulf Air...…

Can't see EK+EY actually happening in any form.

But after Abu Dhabi unexpectedly bailed out and renamed the Burj for Sheikh Mo, I could be surprised. Again.

Abu Dhabi bailed out Sheikh Mo and took overall ownership of the profitable parts of ICD Investment Corporation of Dubai. That was the only way Dubai could offer collataral for the loans of $20 billion. Sheikh Mo was utterly humiliated at the forced re-naming of The Burj and left within moments after the opening. Also how could Dubai raise the money to buy EY? Massive regulatory hurdles abound. Not to mention egos higher than Burj Khalifa. I doubt thus will happen.....

anything african or middle eastern is a pissing contest between dictators. Cooperation is a form of weakness. Our stuff is shinier...

They could still use both airports, one for domestic, one for international and use the HYPERLOOP to transport pax between Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Travel time will be 12 mins i believe.

Nah, hyperloop will never happen IMO and it may only be 12 minutes end to end but it will be half a dozen passengers in each pod every 12 minutes and more like every 30 minutes by the time they have finished faffing around. there's no way you can have tow pods in the same tube going in the same direction so its 20-50 people per hour between the two.

Why is there a ban on talking about the unmentionable given its no longer an accessible website in the UAE ?

There is virtually no domestic air travel in the UAE- You can drive from one end of the country to the other in 90 mins, after all!- and the hyperloop is a pipe-dream (see what I did there??).
