Just had a coffee with an F/O for a UK airline who has had a couple of weeks off sick in the last 12 months. He has just had an email from his contracting agency stating he is to attend a formal interview on Friday with the agency (an hour after his flight) but this has not been put on his roster. He was asking me was it legal or do the contracting agency have to call the company crewing department and get it rostered. Our part A say "administrative duties" should be rostered ...but does not define what they are? Union recognition is hopefully not too far away (the company is loosing pilots hand over fist because of the way it is treating its people) but any thoughts on this would be most appreciated.

He can attend on a day off without having to be rostered. Or refuse as its a day off. If the airline in question is losing pilots hand over fist as you say, maybe he should go and see what said agency has to say and then join the list. Not Eastern by any chance is it ?

The AOC probably doesn't know he's in for tea n biscuits so I would suggest your friend calls the Airline and asks them to add to his roster.
If they refuse it might get difficult - but for 10 minutes - in the big scheme of things I'd be more worried about the chat than the duty time.
