Just wondering ballpark figures what it would cost to move an RV4 project a few hundred miles by road, inclusive of taking the wing off for transport?

I've moved alot of airplanes by road. The companies that do it for the insurance jobs are very professional but have to charge accordingly. I'd calculate it based on a tilt and slide recovery truck quotation from postcode to postcode. Check your wheel track fits the truck bed, then check to see if the horizontal stab will fit inside the truck bed, or be very little over it. It will take a day with you and an engineer following behind bringing straps, tires or mattresses for the wings and generally being there to make sure nothing gets broken. You may end up making a frame to elevate the tail so the wings can sit under the fuse. I've done this a few times. A good stock of used airplane tires will cushion the wings off the truck bed, and from each other.

I pay around £1/mile to move classic cars around the country. Generally have to pay positioning costs on top. As an LAA member have you asked on their website?

One technicality to be aware of: check the span of the horizontal stabiliser. From memory I think it may be 9ft. 6 ins. The maximum width allowed on the road unrestricted is 9 ft.!!!

@abgd, you are a famous tinkerer, aren't you? Why not drive her yourself on a flat trailer? My own pride and beauty was driven in from Hungary on a (specialised) trailer, we did the whole trip of 1600+1600 kms in a weekend - from Friday afternoon to Sunday afternoon.

We moved a Jodel DR1050 one-piece wing on a low loader, both ways being empty trips without his big excavator. Very competitive price.

Thanks for the feedback including the PMs. At present it's hypothetical but just wondering how much trouble and expense it is.
I do like tinkering - but it becomes stressful when done away from home. There's always a tool that one forgets, or some unforseen complication that one would wish to sleep on before proceeding.
The other issue is that I don't drive, though my sister has a LGV license and could probably be persuaded to help.
