Hi, Had a rest day planned after my duty at the end of this week and they have just changed it to an operating day? Is this allowed....one of the crew said they were supposed to give me two weeks notice prior to changing a rest day. What are the rules in your company (is there a National ruling on this)?

A rest day is a duty day if talking EASA FTL.
No such thing as a National ruling e.g working time directive.
Swings n roundabouts - if you get a duty day changed to a rest day make sure you come back and tell us...

Thanks Mr A..presumably (like a reserve day ) rest days don't count towards the duty hours limit?

Negative - some airlines use available which is perhaps better

I would have thought a Rest Day is a 'Day Off' in which It cannot be changed just like that without notice,
But you maybe thinking your 'rest day' means that you are actually on what is known as ''Available''.
IE: you are not on standby, so you do not have to be contactable, nor answer the phone on that day, but you can be rostered a flight beforehand or used for something - I am not sure what happens if you answer the phone on an available day and then say no, I do not think you can say no in that case, but I am not fully up to speed with latest rules.
''Available day'' does not count as duty hours unless they use you.

BTW are you FD or CC? - from your previous posts you seem to be FD crew, but this has been posted in the CC forum...

Edit - You mention that 'after your duty week ends your planned rest day has now been rostered for a duty' - Therefore that seems to me they have now rostered you without notice to fly on your first day off after your roster...That does not sound kosher to me. Or was your planned rest day annual leave?
I think you need to clarify with your LM your actual roster terminology, your days off entitlement, and find out what is the case here...

Hi Rog
Don't confuse the matter. A rest day is a duty day.A day off is a day off. (although no such thing under EASA FTL only the UK WTD)
If prior to the rest day the duty is changed then it's ok. If called on a rest day then notice of a change would be needed e.g 10hrs.

Thanks -
As mentioned, I knew it as ''available'' - and counts as a duty day.
What I cannot recall was if they call you at home on a rest day/available - can you say no? Just curious.

I think the answer here is along the lines of - If called on actual REST day;

Change PRIOR to actual REST day, and during any previous duty period is acceptable, or
Happy to accept duty on day = ANSWER PHONE
Not happy to accept duty on day = DO NOT ANSWER PHONE

That I think is best explanation/action?.
