We have more to fear from politicians fighting and stealing than tribal warriors.

It should be considered an honour joining such an elite group of stable mates...:}

Did I see a report that a Twin Otter got destroyed by arson recently in PNG? The locals were upset about an election outcome.

Not a good look when you see your aircraft being burnt out before your eyes.

It was a Air Niugini Dash 8. Hevilift took some ground fire the other day on a helicopter with hits on the machine...

Not exactly new to have tribal fights in PNG, probably over something trivial like a stolen pig. Tourists have previously been robbed on the Kokoda trail as well, and anyone walking around Port Moresby at night is guaranteed to be mugged, during the day it’s extremely likely.

I remember hearing that PNG receives the same number of tourists in a year as Australia receives in half a day.

With it’s natural attractions and proximity to SE Asia, PNG could rival Bali or Fiji as a holiday destination if the chances of falling victim to violent crime weren’t so high.

In the 20 plus years I've been living and traveling to and from PNG the law and order situation has never changed, the circumstances only change.

One distinct element with regards to the crime in PNG is that the rascals/criminals in just about all cases don't generally have the intent to harm or kill their victims, all they want are the material things. When people do get injured or killed, it usually involves a robbery that goes wrong or it's related to tribal warfare or paybacks.

Touch wood I've only been directly affected by 2 robberies, 1 was a holdup and the other was a break and enter into a house. In the case of the holdup I only lost my wallet which was actually voluntarily returned as the rascals accidentally mistakenly targeted me for someone else, in the house break in we lost a lot of personal goods whilst we were sleeping upstairs, didn't even know the place had been done over until I went downstairs and realised that the doors were open and the place had been ransacked.

It’s gotten worse.
Look at the regional airports closed due “civil unrest”.
Mendi will never reopen.
Mt Hagen was closed yesterday.
Trump isn’t coming to APEC some say Securtiy had a big part in the decision.
My bet is more leaders will pull out.
