I see an FRI has been introduced for SAC(T), Cpl and C/T for Trade group 1 as of last week
Shame as it has come to this, when the Ivory towers have been warned constantly over the last few years!

Excuse my ignorance, being waaaay out of date ... what’s an FRI?

I’m assuming some sort of retention measure? “Incentive”?

Financial retention incentive. I.e. a bung.

Anyone know how much??

Thanks ... I should have been able to work that out!

This is what it says on E-Goat about it

Bonus of £20000 (Tax and NI payable)

Tax = £7332.20
NI = £427.83
Take Home = £12,239.98

3 Year Retention, Per Year = £4079.99

Is it worth it for just over £4,000 a year for Chief Tech!

Looks like it's 10K for a SAC(T), 15K for a Cpl and 20K for a C/T

It's bad when you have to bribe people to stay in the job.

Why is it a bribe any more than say an alternative employer offering 65k vice the paltry offering within the service? We used to have List 1 trades recognised and paid appropriately for their technical abilities.

It should be core pay increase, and therefore pensionable, to ensure SQEP stays in place.

So if I have this right the corporals and chiefs are now on more than the sergeants and flight sergeants, their principal supervisors?

This is the result of the disaster that was Pay2000, even though it was late being implemented the effects will be felt for a long time yet.

Anyone got the DIN or IBN for public consumption?

Agreed, however they had never really been comparable, even though the services would like to make you think so in the past, also the current trade structure as in training and skillset is below their civilian counterparts, the pendulum swung the other way quite a while ago.

If that's the case, I wonder if it will bring up people refusing promotion on the grounds of financial benefits.

You don't have it right. It is a one of payment, to people leaving in the next three years, to extend their exit date by three years.

So the £12k net doesn't put those guys on more than their supervisors over the next three years?

Bit of an obtuse argument as it isn’t salary but whatever floats your boat.

Clearly stated as being 'Taxable Income'.

Tell that to those not getting it and no doubt being reminded by those that are that they are now on less for three years, surprised if their is a glut of Sgt's and a shortage of Chiefs that they didn't simply promote the better ones.

None of you have mentioned the small print. From the excitement of the initial anouncement comes the sub clauses that means that significantly less than 20% of Chf Techs, Cpl's and SAC's are actually eligible.

So that can also cause resentment amongst the other 80%

To be fair, given the churn rate less than 20% sounds about right. Does anyone know what leaving dates they are targeting?

This will cause so much ill feeling in the trade. When the NCA 20k FRI was doled out (15 years ago?), it was strangely targeted at personnel already in the pension trap - so they were never going to leave anyway. However those closest to the pension date got no FRI at all. This mostly caused grief amongst the wives, when many were whining about paying tax on their free 20k whilst the others got nothing.
