Now I know why the statement exists, It's not night, but still!!! The three best things in life are:
- a good landing,
- a good orgasm,
- a good bowel movement.
The night carrier landing is one of the few opportunities in life to experience all three at the same time.

A good job - but I think that this one’s actually relatively benign - he seems to get the ball at 00:19 at about 300ft - and therefore ends up with more than the prescribed 18 seconds on the ball.

I’m unfamiliar with the Rafale HUD so can’t tell whether he’s following steering cues, but the lack of comm suggests that he is.

Deck ops - not for the faint hearted.

Was that not autoland?!

I presume the 1450kg in the bottom right of the HUD is remaining fuel-did he have a go for another try then if he did a bolter?

Only if he keeps it at idle, I'd have thought?

Well, only if that is usable fuel. ;)

I don't think so. However, looks like a FD manual approach with deviations and corrections. MLS? No AutoP disconnect audio or visual. Anyone know what the big "W" on the RHS of HUD in last stage of landing means? :)

As others have noted, my quick calculation was obviously at approach power settings. YMMV :)

Always hard to work out exactly what ‘corner’ he’s actually in with respect to fuel.

One assumes he’s below Max Trap and above bingo - but other than that no way of telling how close he is to needing the tanker, the diversion or if he’s got a spin or two round the ‘Bolter/ Wave Off pattern’ up his sleeve.

Could be! OTOH, the big W appears in the area where R/T transmission freq info comes on a couple of occasions. Hmm, also with "W" is "spectr" underneath. I am guessing the "W" might indicate that the wire/deck is free for landing and maybe this info is passed as a "special transmission, spectr" ? Don't know.

On a similar theme I was thinking WAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
You have to really trust in your technology in situations like that.
A chum used to be a Crew Chief on Vulcans, and then moved onto the Tornado. He told me of a back seat PAX ride at night, screaming through the Scottish Glens at LL using the TFR, the aircraft only a few metres from some very rocky and solid bits of terrain.

His seat cushion was soiled too.
