Japan Airlines has won the prize for the Best Economy Seat at this year’s Skytrax World Airline Awards, the aviation industry’s equivalent of the Oscars, which took place on 17 July.

This is the second time this humble seat has won the coveted award, after securing first place back in 2015.
What makes this seat so special?

As in so many areas of life, size matters, and the JAL Sky Wider Seat that scooped first prize is no exception to this rule.

Interesting that the JAL 777 has seating of 3-4-2 arrangement. Means groups of all kinds can be accommodated without having to sit with other people. I like that.

Small but important. Usually, it's just the two of us and that is why, on a recent trip to Laraca, I chose the 767 rotation as they have two seats outboard of the aisles. The option was a 321, with 3+3.

Who are they trying to kid ?

Not only that, but it also means that just one out of the nine passengers in each row has to clamber over two people to get to the aisle, unlike a 3-3-3 layout. Clever idea.
