Crews at easyJet have apparently been advised that a proposal to offer a three year secondment to EK, is in the final stages of being drafted.

A three year secondment and a five year bond won't entice many I suspect, unless the bond period is reduced to three years like it used to be.

Could this be more of a "please don't leave for Emirates, but if you really want to then we'll offer you a return if 3 years"? I know another UK low cost airline was thinking of setting up this kind of agreement because at the time they were losing quite a few pilots to Emirates and they thought it might help at least get the pilots back in the future.

Anyway, I can't imagine why any Easyjet pilots would want to join Emirates at the moment. The money is no longer good enough with the cost of living going up and up every month. The rosters are ridiculous and they are so short of crew that they have had to reduce crews to 3 pilots on some ULR trips and also reduced the cabin crew compliment by 2 on ULRs. Imagine what this is doing to the level of fatigue, safety and service! I can't be bothered to go into all the other issues - you just need to look at the many other threads on this forum.

Such a shame that what was once one of the best airlines in the world to work for has turned into one that is treating it's crews the way it is and making so many pilots want to leave and go and work for low cost companies back home.

I don’t understand this. Are easyJet heavy on numbers and looking to cut the workforce short term? I can’t see many easyJet crew wanting to leave for EK. The cat’s well and truly out the bag.

This came as a surprise to easyJet pilots too. We are short of crews as well, cancelling many flights for this reason, so no idea why the company would consider this.

It might probably appeal to young, single guys wanting to "try" long haul, keeping the possibility to go back home after a reasonable amount of time.
Nobody in the country where I am based would even consider to leave easyJet to Emirates, with no possibility to return.

Might be good for youngish guys to go scratch the long haul itch and go fly a Boeing, or is this aimed at the big Bus only?

I suspect this is preparing for a hard brexit. I appreciate they have easyjet Europe with an AOC in Austria, but if G reg aircraft can no longer fly into Europe, they will be looking to offload crew quickly whilst the politicians argue it out. I’m staying put mind. Mrs Marvo is happy and I hate the thought of Basra nightstops

The facts are Emirates is a complete ****e airline to work for. A pilot would be insane to consider this job even for a few years with an escape clause at the end.
They work you hard, treat you very badly and are the most arrogant bunch you will ever have the pleasure of serving and serving is what you’ll be doing because that’s all you’re here for.
Eau de is a TRE so he has it a little better than the rest of us but his job is still bad when you compare it to other jobs.
Emirates is bad all around. With the pilot shortage and world wide contract improvements don’t come here. Enjoy your life and have a better career in numerous other desirable places. Emirates is not one of the places you will enjoy.

Italy, but I suspect that the same could be said about all the pilots based in Germany and France, and in second instance the UK, where the working conditions are more than reasonable.

It could be because the Cadets out of the Emirates flight academy don't have a lot of hands on experience landing
a Jet or any airplane for that matter. Given MPL nowadays is pretty impresive to fly an easyJet A320 or an B777 right out
flightschool.
There is also a rumour that easyJet is getting Virgin Atlantic cadets to get 1000 easyJet hours or so and than go
back to Virgin. The same could be the case for Emirates Cadets. Getting a couple of 100 flightcycles in easyJet before
they fly a B777 or A380.
Not to sure if it is a good thing flying widebodies around the globe without having done an X amount of Short haul Jet
hours.
Perhaps that is pushing MPL a bit to much. And now they realise.
That means that some "experienced" easyJet F/O's can have a go in Emirates. An other benefit for easy. These F/O's
might not leave for BA than because they have ticked the longhaul box in Emirates. And therefore not increasing the easyJet
package to retain these F/O's.

I can't see the cadets being too keen on flyihg low cost for a couple of years before gettting their hands on a 777. Wasn't something similar tried with Fly Dubai a few years back and binned because the cadets didn't want to do it?

Those that were there actually didn't want to come back. But their request was denied.

You are right we had 18 Emirates cadets at Flydubai and we trained them , they all went back to Emirates ( after they reached 1500 hours , if I am correct )
The reason why it has been stopped is that initially the deal was that after 3 years they should have had the choice between going back to Emirates or to stay at Flydubai.
But Emirates ( being short of pilot ) wanted them all back despite the fact that some of them wanted to stay.
Also Flydubai didn't want to spend so much time and money to train them and then loosing them for the Emirates's benefit , Emirates refuses to pay the real cost so Flydubai started his own second officer and cadet program which works very well if I look at the number of the trainee joining the scheme.

Why would they be glad ? EK need pilots and 2000 hr easy jet recruits would be welcome I think . Some arrangement by BT and his previous lcc employer perhaps .Imo the fewer pilots that join, due to poor terms and conditions, the better. The corporate spin that states when EK have more crew the unsustainable work rate will reduce is , quite frankly, less than truthful, it won’t .

I have to agree. If EK gets plenty of pilots of the current terms, why would they change anything? Its supply and demand, they are keeping a lid on the T&C and testing the water, unfortunately no one is reading the test results ;)

I have heard similar developments with MPL cadet pilots.

Qatar are sending theirs to air Malta to get hands on and virgin are sending theirs to easy. The latter with a rather low virgin cadet salary paid for by virgin. It’s a win win for easyJet!
