Is it realistic to become a pilot at age 47?

Yes. My airline has hired 63 year old pilots with no jet experience.

I soloed a guy years ago on his 56th birthday. I recommended him for his Private certificate and he passed on the first attempt. He went on to gain his instrument and commercial ratings with a couple of my colleagues in due course . Last I knew he was flying traffic reporters around a large metro area and was well regarded in the media flying community.

There's allot of different types of flying jobs out there and you still have plenty of time to find a niche. I've seen plenty of graybeards in the right seats of jets too. Don't let not being a kid anymore limit your aspirations any more than it absolutely must. Or any more than you are comfortable with. As long as the body, the grey matter and the motivation are up to snuff, all it takes is time, effort and money! I suggest obtaining the highest class of medical certificate you anticipate requiring in the future prior to commencing training. For airline work, that's a first class medical. For most other commercial work not requiring an airline transport pilot certificate, a second class will do. Best to know beforehand where you stand in terms of medical qualification.

But even before any of that, be sure you love flying airplanes! I have no idea what flying you've done up until now, but don't invest a nickle in this venture unless flying gives you a pleasurable sense of purpose and accomplishment. Learning it well requires too much dedication and commitment to be successful without allot of desire. If that's you, then give it a shot.

Currently situation in America is ,regional airlines need pilots! No matter how old you are, as long as you have 1,500 hours and meet their requirements, they will hire you.

Age used to be a problem to an airline pilot, but now in it isn't.

By all means it is possible.
That being said, it will not be easy, (nothing worthwhile ever is). You will need 3 things in equal proportion. It cannot be done without all 3.
1) Time. It is a time consuming endeavor. And you must put in the effort.
2) Money. No bucks, no Buck Rogers. It will cost you some coin to pay for the plane, instructor, and the requisite items (books, flight planners and such)
3) Dedication. Elbow grease.
Take an introductory lesson or two to see if you like it, and feel that this is something that you want to do.

it is an amazing career, that is unique, and enjoyable.

Give it a shot.
