With all the celebrations in regards to RAF 100 it is a shame that a school in Lincoln which is named after an RAF VC winner has not had any contact from anyone.
I imagine there cannot be too many schools named after RAF VC winner's so it seems an easy PR win was missed!

Please tell us what you have done to put this right re contacting the local RAF units, perhaps an ATC squadron or two.

In slower time it might be worth enquiring as to why there isn't an existing relationship, as you rightly point out an unnecessary 'PR lose'.

There is also the Barnes Wallis Academy at Coningsby. There is an obvious link with 617 and the Petwood at Woodhall Spa.

Whilst the RAF might not have been in touch with the school, Leslie Manser has not been forgotten locally in this RAF Centenary year.

In February the Sleaford Legionnaires Aviation Society hosted a lecture on the Lincolnshire Air VCs. The lecture included the Leslie Manser story and the role played by Leslie Baveystock, which explained why the VC was not gazetted until the October of 1942. The Leslie Manser School was also included in the talk.

Lincoln Business Improvement Group have launched various 'RAF 100 Voices' Trails around Lincoln and the County. Check out the Proctor Trail which includes the Leslie Manser story and which I believe mentions the school.

Old Duffer makes a valid point. Might be worth contacting Radio Lincolnshire.

Old Duffer you make a fair point
A few years back I did approach RAF Wadddington seeking a community governor for the school. I had an e-mail back from OC Ops Wing stating that the station was too busy and didn't have anyone spare. At the time I had the feeling that they weren't interested
and hadn't publicised our need for a community governor
Maybe I will try again

Send a message to Wensleydale, he may give you a better point of contact.

Some years ago the community governor was one of the Education officers, now Force Development, but the post may no longer have the capacity. It is certainly worthwhile pursuing that appointment. If the Principal is invited to the annual cochlear party that is the time to buttonhole the CO.
