View Full Version : Bell 206 L3 RIN

Hello,
I'm trying to figure out the Bell 206 L3 RIN (retirement index number) logging system.

My company has been using 2 RIN per torque event, but my understanding from the flying manual and the service bullettin n: 206L-94-99 is that for the L3 it should only be one RIN per torque event.

Please let me know what you are using.

Jeez, that would be a first....an operator recording more life cycle events than necessary.
For the trunnion,
Increase the RIN for the Model 206L, 206L-1, and 206L-3 helicopters by 1 for each torque event.
Increase the RIN for the Model 206L-4 helicopters by 2 for each torque event.

For the mast, increase the RIN for the Model 206L, 206L-1, 206L-3, and 206L-4 helicopters by 1 for each torque event.

1 torque event = per take-off
1 torque event = per external load lift.

In my experience with the L3/L4 it's one RIN per torque event. A torque event being a takeoff or if you're on a long line a "pick".

Correct, here is the definitive answer from the FAA:

1 Event is 1 RIN...except for the L4 which is:

Count your landings
Count your external lifts
Add the two and multiply by 2 to get your RIN's.

As helpful as people are trying to be - YOU should be looking at the latest revisions for the relevant ASB's and FAA AD's. Its all available online. This way you can satisfy yourself you are using the correct system to apply the RINS. I am not saying the answers on here are wrong but it is YOUR responsibility to ensure you understand and apply the correct penalties. The FAA/CAA are not going to be impressed if you say I got my answers on a forum......

Hi Ainippie. Yes you are right. I do have the latest service bullettin, flight manual and maintenance manual. It’s just that we find part of the latest safety bullettin slightly confusing. But I think we’ve sorted it out now. We will only log one RIN per torque event.

I've no idea for the 206, but make sure you get it right - there was a spate of mast failures on B212s in the late '90s due to incorrect RIN recording!

Interesting. It's been quite a while but I pretty sure we recorded RIN's the same for the L3/L4. Maybe someone from maint. was adjusting the numbers. Hope so.

Did you read the attached letter from the FAA? It spells it out.

I did, that's what I was referring to. No question what the letter says, I'm hoping someone was adjusting the numbers in the records cause I sure don't remember doubling the RIN's for the L4's.
