Helibras manufactured helicopters operating outside of Brazil

Hi All,

Have been trying to find out if Helibras manufactured aircraft (in this case a late model VEMD AS350 B2) is able to be operated anywhere a standard Eurocopter machine can operate. I understand there were some limitations with early model squirrels (B, BA and early B2 machines up to around 1996), but have been advised that the newer helicopters are under the same type certificate/mod status as a machine manufactured in Europe. Cant seem to get a definitive answer, and still waiting to hear back from the Authorities..

Specifically, can these helicopters be sold and operated in EASA land?

Appreciate any light anyone can shed on the subject. My understanding is that for all intents and purposes a "Helibras AS350" and Eurocopter AS350 are one and the same thing.

I know the NZ authority recognises the Brazilian made helicopters are the same type certificate, just as they do with USA manufactured versions.

NOTE: Helicopters manufactured under license in the USA and Brazil are still considered to be covered by EASA.R.008 as the State-of-Design type certificate, although they may have the H9EU or 8812 (Import) type certificates on the dataplate.

Download the EASA TCDS R.008 - it pretty much covers your question -

The aircraft, the s/n of which are listed in Airbus Helicopters document:
- L102-001 are manufactured under Helibras license;
- L 102-002 are manufactured under AE-MS license.

Helibras BA,B2 and B3 are all eligible to operate anywhere. Old HB 350B might be a different story.

Be careful with this point - If you were to try and sell it in the USA it would need an Export C of A from Brazil to keep the FAA happy.

Ask your friendly AH distributor - they might not be so cooperative but you never know.

Thanks for the info, yes unfortunately the local AH people couldn't give us a definite answer. Thinking I might have to go direct to the source at Helibras and ask the question. Cheers for the help.
