B1.3 License essays

I was just wondering if anyone could help me out. I currently hold an a-license. I’m all set and ready to apply for my B1.3 maintenance license ( logbook and examantions complete ). However , I’ve recently been informed that I may need to sit the 4 essays . I was under the assumption that when I passed the 4 essays to get my A-license these would also count for my B-license essays as they are the same standard . So does anyone know if I have to do the essays again to get my B1.3 license ?

The situation may somewhat vary from one EASA country to another, but here in Czech Republic most modules contain a lot more questions for a B license than for an A one.
