Pretty amazing flying... a quick weave to avoid a car or two and if she followed the checklist, from 65-70 knots on touch down to a dead stop at the traffic lights!
Other reports cite the location it happened as Hamilton Ave, Huntington Beach.
They say she was flying out of John Wayne and suffered power loss - musn't have had enough height to make the beach itself.
From Google maps, that looks like a pretty built up area too - not too many open spaces to put down a 172!
I guess they'll put it on the back of a truck to get it back to the FBO.
That “good job well done” will likely be turned into endangering the general public.
i don’t know the area but it may or may not have been the most appropriate place for an emergency landing.

no doubt all sorts of stuff will come out in the investigation. But she did well to avoid the power lines, poles, and cars. And she had a good dose of luck.

She had an engine failure and didn't have a lot of choices on where she put it down. Would you have preferred that she smack it into the side of a building??

I can’t answer that as I wasn’t in that situation.
But the first inclination of the (uneducated ) press is usually to praise the pilot for the avoidance of a true massacre.
My point was simply that these events rarely turn out to be what they were initially perceived to be.
But the average newspaper almost never publishes a follow up after a year or so when the final report of the NTSB comes out.
I just questioned the ‘backslapping’ that’s all.

And yet the major league baseball team in nearby Anaheim (Orange County) call themselves the Los Angeles Angels! Mr Autrey never got to see his team win the World Series. But at least he never had to see them called Los Angeles Angels either. People living inside the "Orange Curtain" know the difference.
No idea why the engine quit, but it apparently did. Setting it down on a street in a city without hitting anything is good. Maybe we'll find out later what caused the power loss so we can draw and quarter the guilty party. But however it happened, the result was better than most of the alternatives. Until someone proves she caused this herself, the benefit of any doubt goes to the pilot.
