Looks like EK388, A6-EPH, on May 20 took an early left turn on departure off runway 21 due to weather and the locals weren't happy. The flight didn't make it into PNH on the first try and after holding diverted to BKK, presumably for fuel.

The Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) will issue a warning letter to Dubai-based Emirates Airline after one of its aircraft flew too low in a no-fly zone in Yangon, a senior DCA official told The Myanmar Times on Tuesday.U Soe Paing, director of DCA, said the incident occurred late Monday [sic] and involved Emirates Airline flight number EK 388 bound for Phnom Penh from Yangon.The Boeing 777ER passenger craft passed through restricted areas above Yangon and the pilot was called in for an investigation, he said.
“We are preparing the letter to give to the Emirates to charge their pilot with breaking the rules. They have the option to choose the route before the flight when the weather is not good. We understand safety is the first priority, but rules are rules. If they break them, they will be charged,” U Soe Paing said.

He said the pilot told DCA investigators that he turned left because the weather was not good in front of the plane and then he flew low through the space above Yangon that is a no-fly zone.

“We are just waiting for the responsible officer to sign the letter, then we will send it to Emirates Airline. The company has to reply to us what action they will take against the pilot for breaking the rule,” U Soe Paing said.

Emirates has been flying a daily service from Dubai to Yangon and Hanoi since August 2016. In July 2017, it began flying four days a week a Yangon and Phnom Penh route to and from Dubai with Boeing 777-300ER aircraft.

Attention all flights through Myanmar!!! Declare a "Mayday" for any weather deviations. Then cancel when clear of weather.

I would like to know after all is said and done how well "EK stands with thier crew" regarding this.

The Emirates Airlines said the safety of the passengers is its primary concern, after being warned by the Myanmar Department of Civil Aviation that one of its plane had strayed into a no-fly-zone earlier this week.The safety of our passengers, crew and our operations will always be our top priority,” an airline spokesperson said via an email to The Myanmar Times on Wednesdday.




“Emirates is aware of the report relating to Flight EK 388 and is providing full cooperation to the authorities in Myanmar on this matter,” the spokesperson said.



U Soe Paing, director of the department, said on Thursday that it had sent a warning letter to the airline for violating the country’s aviation regulations.





“We are waiting for the reply from Emirates,” he said.

The incident, which occurred on Sunday, involved Emirates Flight EK 388 bound for Phnom Penh from Yangon.

The pilot veered from its course because of bad weather and flew low through the airspace above Yangon, which is a no-fly zone.

Emirates started a daily service from Dubai to Yangon and Hanoi in August 2016. In July 2017, it began flying four days a week from Dubai to Yangon and Phnom Penh with Boeing 777-300ER aircraft.
