Dear all,
we have inducted some new b777 300ER's
the above is a snapshot of the MANAGER MESSAGES of old a/c compared to new a/c
FYI we don't have HFDL & SATCOM LOW GAIN in old or new b777.
We have the rest of the stuff.

my question is In the new a/c which has more messages as you can see, the ones highlighted in red about ATN, why is there a separate message on ATN for both VHF & ACARS section? Is it because of the difference in the AIMS BP software installed (all are BP V 17.X)

or is there an extra feature that exists in the new a/c which old ones DOESNT have and what is that ?

'NO ATN LINK' VHF msg can be expected to be seen in which airspace and what failure exactly?

I am am well aware of the VDL m2's & GOLD & other jazz. But this new inclusion is creating doubts.

Kindly pardon my ignorance if I have overlooked something.

THANKYOU & regards :)

The messages in the ACARS section (they will also show in the system information tab) are merely to indicate ATN capability (if VER and ADM are filled in correctly in the system information section it will show ATN capable if the hardware is too, otherwise ATN NOT CAPABLE). The messages for the VHF section indicate the actual connection status to an ATN, obviously ATN requires a mode 2 data connection and that the data network advertises an available ATN service. This is at the moment only the case in certain European FIRs, such as EDUU, LHCC, LOVV etc. Trying to establish a CPDLC connection in these will fail unless the aircraft is ATN capable. Maastricht (EDYY) offers both, CPDLC via FANS (so via any available data connection, be it SATCOM or plain old ACARS over VHF) as well as ATN via Mode 2.
