Hi, I have a question regarding the vision requirements for the CAA Class 1 Medical and cannot find any answers to this on the CAA website nor after calling them (have sent emails too, but they passed me on to the aeromedical doctors...)

I understand that the spectacle correction limits are:
Hypermetropia not exceeding +5.0 dioptres;
Myopia not exceeding -6.0 dioptres;
Astigmatism not exceeding 2.0 dioptres;
Anisometropia not exceeding 2.0 dioptres

However, I cannot find any clear cut information on the vision strength required. I've read conflicting blogs and articles around the web, some of which claim you require 6/6 or 20/20 binocular and monocular vision, while some other websites claim the threshold is 6/6 binocular vision and 6/9 monocular vision.

Does anyone know which it is? 6/6 all around or 6/9 for each separate eye with 6/6 binocular vision? Thanks.

I had the same issue as I have astigmatism and slight short sightedness (c. -2 both eyes). I'm still not sure what the thresholds are given all the different information. It was only when I went for my Class 1 medical did I find out it was fine.

AFAIK, it's 6/9 monocular vision and 6/6 binocular vision.

UK Class One requirements:

Monocular 6/9 or better (for each eye)
Binocular 6/6 or better

There are also closer vision requirements as well.

Hopefully that’s correct since I couldn’t get any info out of the CAA themselves.. Thanks for the replies!
