Remember the name, OC AdmIn at the time, but we reckoned those guys only ever moved around in the dark, we never seemed to see them. Sorry, a bit far to go and visit. There is someone else on here who was around that part of the station at the time but I cannot recall the pseudonym

Poor guy, I hope he gets some visitors and does ok, it makes it hit home when you see how he has treasured his leaving gifts, I do hope you can piece together his history and that it will reignite a spark in him.

Bob Lane was the SENGO on 51 Sqn around the time of the first Gulf. I have a feeling he was also involved in Project Anneka, the conversion of XW249 from Nimrod MR2 to R1. I think the Sqn Boss at the time was Mike Feenan, he may have more information. I'v just pushed out a couple of enquiries on some 51 sites, hopefully there'll be more information coming.

Knew Bob very well from my time on EWAU Wyton, have some photos of us together in the US from Starwindow days.
he was into rowing at Peterborough. I last saw him at Wyton in the Pavilion when he was EA for Tucano. He went off to Leeming. I heard he had re mustered to look after Air Cadet admin.
do we know where he is. If local I would drop in if it would help.

Facebook poster has now said he is in The Warberries Nursing Home, Torquay. Also that he may also have been heavily involved with the RAF Rowing Club and also Peterborough City Rowing Club.

Bob is indeed living at Warberries Nursing Home in Torquay. He is my brother.

When isolation restrictions are lifted, he may well remember a face from the past. He does, however, get very confused and his attention span is short.

I worked with Bob when I was on 51 Sqn in the early to mid 90s. He was very good company, and especially during a 2 week trip to Texas with Mike Blee and Rodney Light. He takes the credit for the naming of the XV249 conversion to a Nimrod R as Project Anneka. I hope he stays safe in these trying times.

Sue,
Thanks for posting the whereabouts of your brother, Bob. I have just scanned some photos to print and put in an envelope and post down to Torquay.
Like Alan Mills I too visited the USA with Bob and one or two others. when we were working on Starwindow. I had moved on before Anneka took off.
Rodney Light features in one of the photos, as does Ray Ross, (ask your Brother about the Lay Loss Japanese restaurant tale from our trip to Washington! ) Jim Walls, Andy Clemminson and Derek Chapman.
Bob was a frequent flier on the Saturday VC10 from Brize to Washington he was always nominated as the Boarding Officer responsible for discipline on the flight. great fun when there was a load of Pongos heading off to Belize misbehaving.
Best wishes.
