IFR Pilots

just scheduled my IPC and I was told the IPC fee is $720. I mean it's not a test, it's just a proficiency check. Why so much??

How much do you pay for your IPC?

Cheers

Check/Test, doesn’t really matter what you want to call it, you can still fail even if your IPC is still current.

Whilst the testing fee you have been quoted is very rich, it’s not unreasonable considering that CASA no longer insure the Flight Examiners. The insurance premiums that Examiners now have to pay is driving flight test fees up, to the point that some Examiners are just getting completely out of testing. CPL flight test would be well over 1k now I assume for most Examiners and they certainly wouldn’t be ripping you off.

To keep a CPL and ME IPC current if you aren’t flying for an operator is very expensive, and that’s not including night currency. I’ve tried it and it would cost at least 10k annually, if not more to keep safe. It was affordable about 20 years ago, however now it’s not unless one had excess money and lots of it available.

And they wonder why we have a pilot shortage in Australia.......

I’m wondering if this whole Indeminty Insurance thing is being blown out of proportion. Do instructors carry indemnity insurance? What if an instructor completes a Flight review or issue a design feature or Flight activity endorsement, do they carry insurance? How many ATOs have been sued over the last 30 years and used the CASA indemnity to cover them?
