American Airlines Ab Initio ?

I guess this is regional headhunting...by American Airlines ? I'll bite my lip for a while and wait to hear what others have to say:


“Most importantly, upon program completion, AA’s three wholly owned regional carriers (Envoy, PSA, and Piedmont) will offer you a guaranteed interview. If hired by one of these regional airlines, you are well on your way to working at American Airlines. American Airlines has contractual flow-through agreements with each of these carriers, which means you will transfer directly to American Airlines, once your seniority accrues. If your ultimate goal is to be an American Airlines pilot, the American Airlines Cadet Academy is a great place to start.“

The only difference I see is the educational requirement. This from the new web site:

"Have a high school diploma or GED (college degree preferred)."

Any documentation available showing what percentage of AA new hires in the last 5 years don't have a college degree ?

Here's a suggestion: Stop ignoring the legions of civ-only-background street urchins who'd sell their soul to work for AA. Currently, they're only 9% of AA's total new hire intake.

The desperation in this new web site doesn't jive with AA's hiring history.

The previous AA history of affiliation with university programs is a de facto "ab initio" program....just spread out and hard to follow.

Check the three links from AA's wholly-owneds that I posted above.

How so? There’s already cadets flight instructing and then goto a Wholly owned which then eventually flow to mainline AA.

The only difference in this program is it offers an option to finance your license without the need to go through a full degree course.

They’re just buying themselves more time keeping the regional feed on life support as it gets prospective guys through a couple years earlier, as well as maybe catching a few more people that wouldn’t have otherwise been able to afford flight training and didn’t want to go through an overpriced degree course.

Regional cadet program with a possible flow later..
This time AA put their name on it and will probably get more involved.
Don’t have the details yet, but for this AA Pilot it was a bit of a surprise: Never done that before to my knowledge. (Thinking LH, JAL, etc style anyways)
