What's the view from the professional Flight Deck on this? Is it a solution searching for a problem? Or will it be a valuable new aid?

Quote from an email I got today.........

Runway excursions during landing have been widely recognized as one of the highest operational risks in business aviation and are a major contributor to airplane accidents worldwide. In response, Gulfstream Aerospace Corp. and Honeywell International Inc. have jointly developed a Runway Overrun Awareness and Alerting System (ROAAS).

This paper describes the audio and graphical indications along with the underlying performance computational principles developed for ROAAS. The strategy taken by the team was to minimize the impact on the flight deck from the standpoint of crew workload and training. Using this approach, requirements evolved based on data collected from system performance and structured, multi-pilot human factors evaluations conducted in a fixed-base simulator and in real-world flight testing. The result is a unique, intuitive, graphical display that provides real-time, contextualized, energy-based aircraft state awareness along with timely visual and audio alerts during approach, landing, and roll-out to aid flight-crew decision making to reduce the risk of a runway excursion.

The email ended as below, in case you want to follow it up. I've put the links back in.

"If you want to find out more, come and listen to Gulfsteam Aerospace (https://www.ae-expo.eu/gernot-konrad/) at AEE or download the Preliminary Conference Programme guide (pdf). (https://www.ae-expo.eu/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/AEE18-Preliminary-Conference-Programme-web.pdf)"

Beware people bearing gifts...

The Emirates crash at Dubai (https://www.gcaa.gov.ae/en/ePublication/admin/iradmin/Lists/Incidents%20Investigation%20Reports/Attachments/90/2016-2016%20-%20Preliminary%20Report,%20AAIS%20Case%20AIFN-0008-2016%20-%20A6-EMW.pdf) is interesting in this context.

The idea isn't quite as new as Gulfstream and Honeywell seem to be implying.

From 2013:
