Russia’s Volga-Dnepr Airlines has decided to withdraw its An-124 cargo plane from NATO’s Strategic Airlift Interim Solution (SALIS), Kommersant reports. The new initiative will take effect from Jan. 1, 2019. Ukraine’s Antonov Airline is the other part involved in the SALIS program and has indicated that it will stay committed.

SALIS was started back in 2005 to provide NATO with strategic airlift services using one An-124 from Volga-Dnepr and Antonov airlines.

To be honest it's rather surprising it took so long...

The Russians are said to have applied for their own german AOC so that being "german" they can order presently embargoed An-124-spare parts from Ukraine. Don't see them leaving alltogether. It's a big business for them.

That might account for why the Salis guys all disappeared back to Kiev last week at short notice when I was with them in Liepzig.
