Got an email from a buddy:
"I depart XXX on my last flight on the xx MMM.
Wife + daughter 1 and daughter 2 WILL be on the flight."
(Note: not if they get on the fight! They all have confirmed First Class seats in both directions! And both daughters are in their mid-twenties but still get free seats.)

"I have been able to choose my cockpit and cabin crew so its going to be fun."
(Try doing that in CX!)

Apart from doing the last flight of his choosing, he was able to write his own roster for his last few months at the airline. Just as it should be after decades of loyalty and hard work! And he will land back home to a water salute by the local fire crews. What a way to end your career. In CX you just walk off the aircraft and go home like any other flight. No reception, no congratulations or farewell from anyone in the company. A rather dismal way to treat people.

I won't respond to the forum bullies, sewer rats and cockroaches who I am sure will take great delight is spewing their venom again. Peace people, and yes, there is a far more beautiful life beyond CX :)

The implied contempt and disrespect that is shown our long-serving flight crew is appalling. This company, management and culture is truly something that needs to be warned about to any who are thinking of making the mistake of coming to work here.

Many years ago, a CX Captain was rostered as RQ on his last flight. He politely requested to operate as the Captain, ... as it was his last flight. Of course, ... the answer was CANNOT! :(

I've never had anything special on a last flight for the simple reason that I didn't tell anyone.
OK, on one, I bought the crew dinner on the last n/s (Didn't tell them before that I was paying - I'm not THAT generous ;))

That would have been an easy decision. I am unfit due stress. Happy to operate tomorrow....as PF. This company is pathetic on so many levels. This one near the top. :ugh: BTW, Rupert. If you want to "fix' CX, this sort of thing would be a good place to start ! (but we know you really don't give a damn, and therein lies the problem with this sad and hopeless airline).

One of our colleagues left a while ago after 30+ years and was repatriated to London in FC. When he asked why the check-in Senior Purser has scrawled "N/L" over the front of the ticket he was told in no uncertain terms that, after 30 years, NL meant "No lounge".
Nice touch……..

He should have walked into the lounge and said "what are you going to do about it". Still, the story is utterly contemptible and disgusting. One thing for sure, I would have been sitting in that lounge 5 minutes later.

Personally, that is the sort of memento that needs framing, and hanging in a place of honour, like the dunny.
However, to fix the immediate lounge problem, I would have gone to one of the CX transit counters, said "this is me Mr Diligaf, seated in 1A, I appear to have lost my boarding pass, please may I have another".
I bet Gladice or Mabel would be quick smart to issue another boarding pass, without the biro scribbled N/L defacing it.

The contempt this company shows its pilots has no bounds.

I still remember the F/Es on the 747-200 recounting how, when most of them were summarily dismissed as the airline bought -400s, more than one was repatriated to OZ (after twenty plus years of service) in... Y class. Nice.

A Canadian Captain, HKG based retired after almost 30 years of impeccable service, back in 2015 or '16 (can't recall correctly).

I had the privilege of operating his repatriation flight to YVR. When he came up front to say "Hello gents" he explained that he was given second last row in Y class as his "Thank you for your service".
(Not that we would allow him to sit in Y class.....)

As some Standard Contract guys are discovering, KA offers neither repatriation flights nor baggage allowance if one joined on those terms. Nice.
