Thought this was a popular route. Fares in PE seemed to be fairly expensive and Y full of Virgin Holidays customers. Does this mean the 744 is required at LHR or perhaps one less a/c in the fleet?

LGW-CUN operates scheduled for 3 days a week in S18 and down to 2 in W18.

Cancelling the route doesn't free up an aircraft ,so either they cancel frequencies on other routes to free the whole aircraft ,or they replace CUN with additional frequencies elsewhere.

CUN is pretty well covered by TUI & TCX. Maybe somebody like VIR should look at LGW/MAN-HNL. Nobody flies to Honolulu non stop from the UK and it is a pig to get to.
I think Hawaian did a short season to MAN/LGW maybe 20+ years ago with a DC10.

It was operated by Western Airlines from LGW via Anchorage, and it's more like 35 yrs ago!

There was definitely an Hawaiian series from MAN, maybe for Airtours. I think it was at a time of huge Airtours expansion, when they also did ITs to Australia (on their own metal)

Western Airlines operated Honolulu-Anchorage-London Gatwick with DC10-10 from October 1981, it lasted approximately 18 months.

Hawaiian Airlines operated charter flights during the late 1980's early 1990's under the Sun Tours brand on behalf of Airtours with DC10-30 although DC8 and L1011 were initially used on flights to both LGW and MAN.

CP air Holidays offered two centre holidays and same plane flights via Vancouver from Manchester in the eighties.
