Rumour is: Alan Joyce will employ every single cx applicant as retribution for the Jetstar block by cx.

Does anyone know if they sponsor foreigners for visa?

The QF CEO is a gay Irishman cohabiting with a New Zealander, so you might be in with a chance.

I'm safely guessing that nearly all aussie SO's have applied. I'm sure a few aren't admitting to it though. I'll be surprised if there are more than a few left here within the next 12-18 months. Certainly I find that most I fly with have applied.

The ad explicitly says Australian or Aussie PR.

But, you can qualify for Australian PR on points, before you even move there, if you are young enough and have enough required skills.

Same same re non ex-military: ‘I didn’t want to go down that route. I preferred to flip burgers. And then single pilot night self-loading (ie me) freight. Or years of sh1tty low-paid crap jobs. No, glad I didn’t go into the military”. A much better product...

Yeah!

I guess this is only possible for CX DESOs as those from the cadet bunch would be handcuffed with the employment bond?

Anyone that has the right to live and work in Australia on HKPA that hasn't applied to the above needs psychiatric help.

This is a rare time indeed for you young fellas, you have choices, don't waste your seniority in HK.

This flying game is a bitch, seniority doesn't bite when your young with SJS, it's when your a bit older you really get  by it. Make the right choices early be smart and listen to those around you that have been around the block.

Does anyone know the starting pay scale? I got offered a job with VA as an SO, needless to say, I'll earn more riding a conveyor belt in a factory...

Don't make the mistake of just focusing on the initial pay at any airline. CX wants you to do just that, that is why they front load the jobs here, only to crush you later in life when you are too old to move. Look at the career in Aus (or anywhere else) as a whole, appreciating where you will be living, and your eventual lifestyle and career position. CX only gets worse, whereas most other careers continually improve as you become more senior. If you have a chance to get home, take it. You will bitterly regret staying at CX, that is a certainty. Imagine dealing with this type of crap your whole career.

And every SO I have spoken with with a QF start has done exactly that. Some have even factored into their spreadsheets the advantages of being able to eventually own their own home, in a place they want to retire.

Should be renamed to QF / Australia recruiting.

Anyone from CX been contacted regarding this round of recruitment? I know internals are going through the motions at the moment but wondering if they have started on externals.

I'm generally happy with work at CX (have a base which makes a huge difference to QOL), and don't agree with all the vitriol that certain people carry on with, however:
In my opinion, any pilot on HKPA (SO and FO) who has an Aussie passport and has not applied for QF needs their head read, and deserves everything they have coming to them here at CX. Waiting for 1000hrs PICUS is only useful if you want to be a contract pilot for the rest of your life. Think of your end game: a descent paying job, a good size home you own, happy partner and kids getting a good education and their own national identity.

You will not get all that in HK. (Sure, Command salary in 20yrs may pay the bills). Here's your opportunity to get into a Legacy airline in your home country. It may NEVER happen again (or for a very long time)
I have friends in QF as SO's earning over $200,000AUD (might not be the norm, but it happens).

A good friend of mine, an American, has been hired to go fly turboprops in aus. They are sponsoring his visa and just want his experience.

Really..

Ironic, considering there are dozens of Australians now flying turbo props in the US because "they just want their experience"

The point is simply that the demand for pilots worldwide is far exceeding supply. CX will come to learn that lesson soon enough.
