Dakota KK194 crashed on the Isle of Mull on 1 Feb 45 while being ferried from Dorval, Canada to Prestwick, via Reykjavik, Iceland. Sqn Ldr Derek Auchinvole, the father of a school friend of mine was on board and survived the crash to raise the alarm. I've written up the crash, with material from the fine Mull Museum, but am still short of reasonable quality photos of:

1. Dakotas at Prestwick in '44/45 (to my knowledge, no photos of '194 exist!).
2. Dakotas at Dorval (I already have the internet panoramic shot of Dorval).
3. The wreckage on Mull.

If anyone can help I'd be delighted to hear from then at:

I assume you've seen this page:

Dakota Mk.IV KK194 of No.45 Group RAF. Flew into Ben Talaidh on the Isle of Mull, 1st February 1945 (https://www.peakdistrictaircrashes.co.uk/crash_sites/scotland/douglas-dakota-kk194-ben-talaidh/)

It mentions that the wreckage was dumoed into a ravine, and there are some photos of bits, including an engine.

As for photos of Dakotas at Dorval, I wonder if the family of Don McVicar would be able to help there: Words on Wings Press | Home of Don McVicar's Aviation Books (http://wordsonwingspress.com/)
Unfortunately all of the links on this homepage produce an error page (for me at least) but there is a Facebook page as well (see bottom of page), which might enable you to get in touch.

Dave & Jhieminga

Thanks - both good shouts. The pix of wreckage on the website mentioned are just what I'm after.

Tony,
I arranged the Dakota wreckage recovery by Air Cadets from 1003 Squadron (Leighton Buzzard) and an RAF Sea King some years back. We then presented a part of the cockpit to the Tobermory museum.
Please contact me if you require further details.
