With the V-Force going camouflaged in the mid 60's, was Vulcan XH477 camouflaged at the time of the accident in June 1963?

G90,

Looks like it was white. Have a look at this site:

Avro Vulcan XH477, Hill of St Colm, Aberdeens. | Air Crash Sites-Scotland (http://www.aircrashsites-scotland.co.uk/vulcan_h-st-colm.htm)

and scroll down to the picture labeled “Right hand engine nacelle [sic]”

Sobering pictures. Mercifully quick for the crew though.

Thanks for that, looked at the site - sobering pictures of the crash just shows the risks taken in low level flying.

St Colm was followed by a IX Sqn aircraft in south Wales. We are talking mere feet between near miss and accident. I believe the pilots on the IX Sqn aircraft were uninjured albeit died of internal injuries.

We are talking mere feet between near miss and accident.

You would be amazed at how many worldwide CFIT accidents are just that.

Dook, I know what you mean and you probably can guess what I meant too.
