Since Heliport seems to delete all the posts and lock the threads without allowing me any sort of response will make a response here and see how long it lasts.

For those that saw my last post it basically asked you all for your comments on which magazines you read, and what you enjoy and dont enjoy about each one of them. I listed a variety of magazines, including my own, not once mentioning any promo type stuff.

The reason for this is called market research. Its common practice around the world for people to ask their target audience what they do and dont like so they can fine tune their products, nothing more, nothing less. Yes in the past I have promoted my magazine, but after talking to various peers here I thought it best to get feedback on the magazine the subtle way, by asking your all your thoughts.

Again I reiterate that in my original post I did not ONCE promote my magazine, yet these moderators, who seem to think they are god, accused me of promoting it. I challenge them to show me where this was done in the last post. Yes I know you guys would probably jump all over me if it was blatant promoting of the magazine, and I accept that, but not getting my posts dumped for some B/S reason, that wasnt even there.

Getting customer feedback is important to developing a good product and its called business, so whats wrong with asking my peers what they like and dont like, nothing as far as I am concerned.

Anyway I have bored you enough and wont make the same mistake again as I have requested my user id be deleted. When dictators, sorry Moderators, such as Heliport remove posts that are legitimate, then its time to call it quits. To those that sent support messages, thanks, but enoughs enough.

To those that I have offended by this, I apologise, but as far as I am concerned I am in the right this time. Havent been in the past, but this time I am. No doubt this message will also get changed so the original post is removed and you will only get to read the moderator version.

hi

i am new, here, and maybe i only see a "small part of all the iceberg", but, because i have seen a couple of post about this matter, i like to give my opinion

Mr. Autorotate, i don't know what mag you represent (and by the rules of this forum, that i accept, i will not know it either) but, if you are interested in doing your called market research (and i accept and undestand that you need it/want to do it) why you don't contact each people individually , "telemarketing style" (by mail...or something like that), i think there allways people willing to help...

like that, you could do your research, without going "agains't" the stream ;)

"how many skids you need to broke until undestand that is a hard landing" someone

PS:sorry my english, and if i'm out of my league

I don't feel you are in the right this time. You clearly would like to differ.

It was clear from your posting that you were conducting market research and in most industries this is a chargable item. So maybe you should consider passing a small amount of your magazine profits towards Pprune. Then using their POLL facility to gain the information you require.

You may have noticed that most of the guys that have been here for any length of time choose not to answer your question, I wonder why that is!!!

If you choose to stay I will enjoy reading your posts, otherwise goodbye.

PS I've had personal messages from you in the past promoting your various interests..... don't bother with one this time!!!

Autorotate: Do any competing media use each other free of charge for market research ? Do I turn on my BBC tv news to see a bloke from ITN asking me if I also watch his channel ? Do I pick up Flyer magazine and fill in a questionaire about Pilot ?
This forum is a jewel on the internet. It's concise, very to-the-point and wonderfully free of commercial interests. Please respect that - and maybe, just maybe, we will learn to respect you!

Autorotate............

I agree with all the others, PPRUNE is not meant to be a vehicle through which to conduct your business. Besides, merely mentioning the name of your own product in your own message is sufficient to suggest that you are advertising.

Autorotate,

You obviously have great difficulty in understanding what our moderator keeps telling you but I hope I can help answer your questions regarding market research of this type.

PPRuNe is not a charity or a public service; we are all here only by the grace and favour of the owner. Some of us have contributed financially (albeit a small amount) to keep it the way it is.

If Danny Fyne, or one of his agents, the moderator, says you have to stop then you should do so or expect to be rightly banned from the site. Having been a contributor member of this forum since it began 7 years ago I have watched all sorts come and go; congratulations on having what is perhaps the brassiest neck and the thickest skin of late on the forum. I am surprised you are still here, others have been excluded before for less.

I have absolutely no interest whatsoever in helping you (or anyone else) to promote a magazine for free on this privately owned forum and I strongly object to your attempts to do so.

You appear to be too naive to realise that your actions make yourself unpopular (not just with with the moderator) so if the above is too difficult for you to understand:

PLEASE GO AWAY - YOU ARE BECOMING A PAIN IN THE AR$E!

so whats wrong with asking my peers what they like and dont like, nothing as far as I am concerned

And you seem to have had your answer in this thread Neville.

PPRuNe isn't a business - it's a vocation and it's readers get caught up in it. Shockingly amateur I know but they seem to like it and a genuine bond does develop. Somehow this has happened despite the moderation that you and some others dislike so much. Logically then you have to ask this question: How can such a despotically ruled midden coincidentally also happen to be the busiest aviation site in the world?

We're certainly not paying people to come here and we can't afford the bandwidth for glossy pictures on every page. Maybe, just maybe people just don't enjoy long term exposure to anything-goes anarchy and unlimited brazen commercialism?

You've posted here under several names and there has never been a problem until promotion or 'market research' arises. You're very welcome to post on this, a site which has never promoted or advertised itself as long as you also follow our ethos.

I know it doesn't make sense to a businessman such as yourself but we make our own way quietly and somehow we've gained the support of over 40 thousand readers most days. We don't ask for a penny but some, as noted above, have graciously helped out.

Now it may not be a rotary thing but as a direct result of our totally unpaid, not for profit work there are 5 new jet pilots plying the skies. You can read their whole story on the wannabees forum. In an impossible job situation we've got them up there - working. Next up is five fully paid for ATPL groundschools for those not yet qualified.

If it makes you and the other 'businessmen' whose unctous blandishments we've binned feel better by having a go that's fine by me - fill your boots and take as many pokes as you like. If you want to call it a vendetta when I've described your work as superlative on this very forum that's fine as well.

We run this place because we love aviation and want to give something back in return for our good fortune. It's not about money and our success is a baffling burden to us. We were rank amateurs when we started and that spirit carries through to this day - all lovers of aviation are welcome - just check in your businessman's hat at the door before entering please.

Neville,

We have been down this road many times and I have not entered the fray, but this time I feel compelled. I have met you several times, count you as a friendly acquaintance, and even flown you around. I have subscribed to the mag since day 1 and I love it. But....

This is not about the validity of your arguement (or otherwise). What I really dont get is that you can be so angry at the moderators/administrators. They built the sandpit, they own the sandpit, and they have therefore earned the right to determine what sort of games we can play. Go play in some one elses sandpit if you dont want to play in this one. Simple. And we know you do play in other sandpits and you do get market response. Cant you leave this one for people who dont like playing your way?

I doubt you would like someone sending you self promotional story and some crap photos and demanding you publish it would you? And the difference is.....?

I just like finally having a refuge from the commercial intrests that plague our every day life, and hearing great yarns like your African adventures (you lucky bast@rd). Now THAT belongs in this sandpit, and yet, we all know that the next issue of your mag will have some great feature presentation on the Rally - all without you having to say so.

In short mate, please chill out, keep the great stories coming and stop going anywhere near the promotional stuff - or bu33er off and play in someone elses sandpit.

Autorotate,

I received your private message and tried to reply but your mailbox is full.

You say you won't be posting on PPRuNe again. It does NOT make me happy as you said you thought it would.

This type of thing has happened on a number of occasions before; most folks apologise and are allowed to carry on provided they desist from doing what caused the problem.

Sorry you can't see your way to doing that.

Sad thread to see for sure. After all the fun conversations recently, you end up with a burr in your saddle...
