I would like to know what the way to becoming an airline pilot (without serving in the military airforce) looks like. I would like to hear real stories.

As long as you know it's very difficult don't worry about the rest!!!
Seriously though, becoming an airline pilot is a combination of:
a)
- Money
- Contacts
- Luck
b)
- Sponsorship
With willingness to study hard and sacrifice a lot of things for either combination.

Buy a guide to getting a Commercial Pilots Licence by Clive Hughes, will save alot of time and hassle.

Try applying to British Airways, the take on people with no flying experiance. V hard to get on I am still trying. Check out their web site. www.britishairwaysjobs.com (http://www.britishairwaysjobs.com) and then go to the pilots section. Good luck

I believe you have to be at least an EU national to apply to British airways. I'm not. Why would they sponsor my tuition when there are enough people in UK wanting to be professional pilots? http://www.pprune.org/ubb/NonCGI/frown.gif

Ah, could be a problem but I have an idea.....find a nice girl over here, marry her and then you would be classed as an EU citizen and then bobs your uncle!!
On a slightly more serious note looks as though you could be stuck with non sponsored route, but just think it will be worth it as I have heard not many things beat being a pilot as a career.

If you are sure you want to be an airline pilot the first thing you MUST MUST MUST do is go and get a class 1 medical. If you fail this you cannot be an airline pilot - end of story. If you pass this then you can start working out sponsorship, or paying for it yourself etc etc. Get the medical!
