View Full Version : Boeing 777 nose gear leg landing and taxi lights

The Boeing 777 has two landing light bulbs and two taxi light bulbs on the nose gear leg. I assume these only work when the gear is down but I maybe wrong to assume that. Can anyone confirm please?
They all come on when the nose gear is down and locked. This is unlike the 747-400 which uses air/ground for runway turnoff and (optional) taxi lights. These lights are not used as foot heaters ;)

NSEU is correct - ELMS looks for Nose gear down and locked signal in the logic before it will power on the relay for the lights.

The correct selection of the switch on the overhead panel will still be required to bring the lights on and BTW " bulbs" are planted in the ground, filament is the correct term! ;)

True. I remember seeing a 744 land many years ago and wonder why they would be turning on the taxi light on the nosegear just at the moment of touchdown instead of concentrating on landing. Twenty-some years later, I discovered why...air-ground sensor.
