LGU have another aviation management degree out for September 2003, its a full time 3 year course. As it is not mentioned on the website, can anyone give me information on it.
Do LGU send you away to cabair or oxford to complete the practical flying course for the ATPL?

No speedbird-the flight training part of it is (the cost and the training) is "left to the student to organise". They have links with a few schools (bonus aviation/stapleford).....don't know if this'll qualify you for a discount or not, but basically the practical side is left to you to decide upon and the academia, well, thats what they're about.

Hope that shed a little light.

Hi,

The new BSc in Aviation Management should be available in September 2003 and will be a "straight" management degree available on a full-time or part-time basis. It will be available for pilots but no special arrangements will apply. The course outline should be on the web site - the new LONDON METROPOLITAN UNIVERSITY web site - in September. The first year course will probably be along the same lines as the Foundation Degree (FdSc) in Aviation Management & Operations that opens its doors this September.

The FdSc is designed for both pilots and managers with a common first year and the ATPL theory in Year 2, having obtained a full PPL during the Summer break at the end of year 1 (a JAA requirement). The theory for the PPL is included in the syllabus for the "Aircraft Operations" unit of Year 1. To qualify for the degree pilots will have to complete the flying requirements of the JAR syllabus up to but not necessarily including the CPL flight test. As British Guy says, we have links with flying schools but the choice of which to use is left entirely up to the student to decide, from the full list of JAA "Approved" FTOs and the costs must be borne by the student.

Pilots who already hold a JAA CPL or above will be given credit for the experience already achieved.

Finally, we originally hoped to have the course available via distance learning from September but due to lack of funding this has been put back. Hopefully it will be available in September 2003, but who knows. If anyone out there either has, or knows someone who might put up funding please let me know. We are all ready to roll but our hands are tied.
