Anyone have more information on this unusual
system ?

I understand this Pilatus doesn’t have a dedicated
APU but one engine has been modified to
operate continuously at, I believe a different
idle speed supplying electrical and pneumatic?
power

I know some turboprops have this feature
but I’ve never seen it on a jet

It would seem an advantage to not have to carry
around the weight of a separate APU not to mention the lower
cost but does it do the same job and what about the extra hours
you are putting on that engine ?

Many small business jet crews use the right engine as an APU already without any accounting for the running hours. I specially designed in mode with accountable servicing etc is a very good idea.

Where's FlyMD?

He should be able to enlighten us (unless it's a commercial secret).

We calculate the engine hours from take-off to landing. No account for engine running on the ground. Also not for prolonged taxi time.
