it seems FJ will be operating BNE/LAX direct(via NAN) from later this year, now that they have ordered a new A332. Not sure how many days a week, but will surely give VA & QF a run for their money, especially when QF 787 comes online with less seats than 744.

Never understood how anyone can say going XXX-YYY direct (via BBB), surely as soon as you land somewhere before your destination you're no longer going "direct"?

"Yeah I had a great direct flight Sydney to Melbourne via Darwin"!

FJ already does BNE to LAX (direct via Nadi)!
The FJ fares would need to be cheap to justify a stop-over to compete with the VA & QF non-stop.

From nov there will be sone direct meaning same aircraft all the way which is way southwest describe their flights in usa. Direct is better than one stop as not waiting for a different aircraft to srrive at mid point.

Nz pulls a lot of pax oz/usa & not sure if any of their flights are direct. Nz are invariably $100 or so less than nonstops which seems to work for them. The Chinese & taiwanese carriers are usually cheaper than nz by $60 or so dollars. It's amazing what people eill fo to save a few dollars. Maybe dome psx book online & don't notice yotal transit time ?

Going back, one boarding card and travelling aboard the same aircraft - even with en-route stops, say Olympic Airways LHR-ORY-FCO-ATH - would have been considered a ''direct flight'' from London to Athens. Back then there were various such multi-stop flights within Europe. That would often cause passengers to enquire about flight routings, and they'd be pleased when told their ''direct'' flight was also non-stop! Frequent flyers always understood the difference if their flight was ''direct'', rather than non-stop.

Now, with so many more worldwide point-to-point services, at any airport you'd be hard pushed to find passengers wandering about, holding transit cards before re-boarding their "direct" flight. Accordingly, perhaps there's less demand for such specific terms.

I'm ex ground staff.
As many have said;'non stop' is non stop.
'Direct' means same flight number, no limit on how many stops, no limit on how many aircraft types.
