Anyone here listen to The Fall?
Very influential - when I were a young muso.
The brilliant Mark E Smith has died - lost to us at just 60.

Bizarre man and bizarre band. I’ve been trying to work out how best to describe their music to someone who had never heard them before and I’m still struggling. I think it’s fair to say that they had a rather niche appeal and their critical reputation outstripped their commercial profile. I couldn’t really get into their tinny racket myself and Mark E Smith’s part drawled part yelped vocal style was something that only the most hardcore fans could love. But obviously some people did indeed love them. Apparently they were John Peel’s favourite band which probably tells you a great deal.

While the exact circumstances of his death haven’t been revealed, from what I heard yesterday he had clearly been in poor health recently. Whether that was due to illness or lifestyle issues isn’t clear, but music has certainly lost one of its more unique characters.

True Andy.
The man was a hardened drinker - which I suspect had a lot to do with it.
Sixty these days is very young.
The Fall were stroppy, obnoxious and weird - as were Mark's lyrics.
But pure genius:
