As an American pilot I'm curious. How do you guys meet those requirements with only 800 hours?

tipsock
14th Jan 2018, 19:54
ATPL theory and IR(H) can be done once you have PPL(A), total time once you have those and CPL(H) could be as little as circa 200 hours. It's possible to get a co-pilot job offshore in the UK with those hours, but I believe Norway requires 800.

‘Buyer beware’ is the key phrase.
If you do not have a current rating on the 139 or 175 and TRE then you will not fly.
The advert is meaningless but for HR to change it would cause too many ripples....
CAD is just another department - it is not an ‘Authority’.
Feel free to pm but a tad busy at the moment ;-)

It would be nice to see salaries advertised with these job vacancies, if only to able to assess the market trend. From all the advertised posts I can only find one where the pay scale is mentioned and that is Helopat's post above.
If I were thinking of changing my job, what salary would I be likely to attract both offshore & onshore with a UK ATPL(H) IR, 5000 hrs, ME ratings?

EESDL

IR 5000-hrs ?
There are numerous onshore SP guys on salaries of >£100k
109SP appear to be the Aircraft of choice - can’t stand them myself but no accounting for taste ;-)

Picking up or shortage? Its difficult to know which is which.

What we do know is, there are constantly pilots leaving and not being replaced. I would say its more of a shortage of suitably qualified pilots

Suitably qualified... depends on your definition, industry wants ready type rated. Lots of qualified without the ratings out there which is a shame

Bristow looking for pilots, Babcock Re advertising looking for Pilots, Babcock onshore looking for pilots, SAS looking for pilots, vici looking for pilots, Private HEMS looking for pilots......
Yes there is a pick up in work, and along with a heavy number of retiree's and disgruntled pilots leaving, it is going to get worse for employers to find qualified guys and girls unless they change terms and conditions for the better.

Just on the posts about shortages
I now know three very experienced pilots who all have paid for a new type rating on there licenses for S-92 and that how they have gotten back into work. Not sure if that’s just being keen or making it harder for the rest to get work when people start paying for the next step in training.
Before it was bad enough getting an I.R but the game is being upped with greater personnel cost.

An S92 rating has to be the best part of £40-£50k?

Who would drop that kind of money with no guarantees?

If you can swing it to make it tax deductible then the numbers probably work out OK to pay for a TR out of your own pocket.

We have had this discussion over and over already:
This is why the industry has gone tits.....and why no company is investing money into training anyone......

A pilot should NOT pay for his ratings!

But this discussion does not belong here-there is no pilot shortage (except for flying schools trying to get more students in somehow)-lets keep this thread clean and filled with job postings only, not discussions..

Hmmmm, a bit underdone on the salary for that one, I would have thought. I mean, there are lowly line pilots out there in Australia that are on that sort of money for a lot less work and responsibility. Anyway, just saying.

...and I heard they already earmarked somebody for the job, who's good mates with the head of the selection panel.

Wiking and Unifly are generally equal time. I believe Wiking are 7/7 and unifly are 4/4. An element of flexibility is required due to the logistics of some operations so it wont necessarily always be a clean amount of days. Not sure what Babcock are doing.

13th Oct 2018, 12:43
Nope, just chronic short sightedness and lack of investment due to the continued downturn for supply chain companies. The majors all seem to be doing nicely again. At the moment, there is still an oversupply of aircraft and just about enough crews. People have left the industry in droves and the attrition continues. The once attractive proposition of a life flying the North Sea is not what it was and many are riding the fixed wing boom. Only when demand outstrips supply will anything meaningful change, and even then, I feel it will be a case of scraping by as the contracts are all too short for operators to make significant investments. That’s what we need but one player will have to disappear before that happens. Place your bets for who that will be. Apart from that, it’s all good!

Many years ago a wise old Bristow pilot said to me: "If Bristow ever offer you redundancy then take it, put the money in the bank, work somewhere else and then a year or two later they will be looking for pilots again. Rejoin and wait for the next redundancy package". I often wonder if they ever actually save money by making redundancies. I thought that Bristow Aberdeen axed half of it's pilot work force a couple of years ago?
