Hi folks,
It looks like Virgin has brought back some of the old A346s to replace the Dreamliners that are out of service. I just wondered how they do this in terms of crews - have they had to retrain former Dreamliner pilots back onto the Airbuses, or did they still have enough Airbus pilots to fill the gaps? Also, in that vein, will 744 crews train straight onto the A350 replacing them next year, or will they start with the A330 and convert?
Just interested to know; the engine problems must cause enormous logistical and cost difficulties and it seems unfair that VS should be lumbered with these despite them being no fault of the airline.

They are also acquiring some former Air Berlin A330s,and have been recruiting pilots recently, including fifty from Monarch.

Can't people refer to it as a B787 rather than something wet that adolences may experience?

It's what the aircraft is called. Complain to Boeing.

In fact if we're being pedantic, it's not a "B787" - it's either a Boeing 787 or (to ATC) a B788/B789.

I don't work for Virgin but know some who do.

The A330/340 is I think a single type rating - Virgin are considering training some crew who currently only fly the 330 for undertaking the differences required for the 340.

Don't know about how 350 crew will be selected. Do know they are still sending people on 747 command courses at present presumably to replace retirees etc. while they are still in service.

Realistically who would commute from Birmingham to London on a daily basis?
A bit more pedantry: Virgin aircraft show Boeing 787-9 at the pointy end, with no reference to Dreamliner elsewhere on the body. On the other hand, BA show nothing.

I believe that DL are operating fourth daily JFK & ATL rotations in lieu of ones scheduled by VS thus saving the latter the requirement for two 787s.
