Could have been very nasty.

Looking at the E-8 dispersal on Google Earth there certainly is not a lot of space between parking stands, but it must have been quite a catastrophic failure of the engine under test to have damaged so many other aircraft.

Look on the bright side, it failed on the ramp, not runway or air....

“Our maintenance personnel are phenomenal,” says Col Thomas Grabowski, 116th Air Control Wing commander. “Their ability to restore these aircraft to flight status in such a short period of time demonstrates the combat mission ready posture of this unique organization.”
In any country, any organisation, mil or civil, I'd have to say MRDA :E

(I bet future runups will be done on a remote stand)

Indeed, looks like they pack them pretty tight. And it looks like the old SAC "Christmas Tree" alert ramp sits empty....

Even in modern times I do wonder if dispersal would be better. Security seems to drive putting all the eggs together (and makes it easier on maintainers and crews), but here we have one incident taking out adjacent aircraft. God forbid if they had a pooled fuel fire, or tornado. I also note the E-3's at Tinker. Perhaps we should channel Admiral Kimmel....
