I seem to recall there was a reason for his 'husky' voice but I don't know what.
One day, demonstrating the Hawk to a potential overseas customer round the Guildford area, he asked me 'is 350 knots OK here or would you like me to slow down?' There was no other traffic about so naturally I said it was OK.

Tall and distinguished at 82, he speaks in quiet, hoarse tones the legacy of a post-ejection operation for a broken neck

So sad to hear this. Thinking of Pat, John and Rupert, his dear family.

Duncan and Dad joined the RAF together, was Dad's best man at his wedding and gave a moving valediction at his funeral.

A deeply intelligent and thoughtful man who was truly great.

A deeply intelligent and thoughtful man who was truly special

High praise indeed. Will there be published a fuller account of his life?
