PRC's HNA Group-owned Swissport acquires Australia’s Aerocare

Can anyone explain why HNA Group would want to buy aviation ground handler Swissport or build it by adding Aerocare? Is it just the prestige in snapping up another Western brand, rather than creating their own? Does it give their business more credibility in Western eyes (I'm assuming)?

While I am not naive, dumb, and certainly not xenophobic.. the world is a village.
I am concerned that our " leaders" are facilitating the sell off of Australia piece by piece, business by business.
Given more time, the "right" political climate plus public apathy, we may one day see Qantas flogged off to our northern neighbours.

So, I'm throwing this thread open for discussion or debate... aviation pros, Technies, Managers, Lames, Rampies, Flighties, jeez even CEOs! what do you all think?? :ok:

HNA has that Virgin link also so no doubt somewhat related.

Aerocare’s bulk of its business is out of the Virgin Group (including Tiger) and operate on significantly lower costs than Virgin employed staff run off that essentially do the same thing (under much better conditions though!)

Australian Businesses are forcing themselves to sell their arses off because of complete mis management destroying their bottom lines.

The expansion of the whole HNA group in recent years is quite fascinating, being one of the airline groups in R.P.China that is not majority Government controlled.
My only detailed knowledge, from first hand experience, is at the original airline. Interestingly, they had a very close working relationship with Lufthansa, putting all their potential senior management people through Lufthansa technical school.

Australians will own nothing soon. The real reason is that our superannuation funds and others invest overseas and don't support Australian industry or projects. Successive Federal and State governments encourage overseas investment and in the case of supporting Australian businesses look for the so-called cheapest option. Points in case the ADF buys boots and uniforms from China!!!!

Except that dnata (originally stood for Dubai National Airports Ticketing Agency, then grew into ground handling) was already an 'Arab' company before it set up business here. Incidentally, TOLL was just a partner and there was at least a rumour that they were likely getting the better end of the deal. TOLL sold out of the TOLL-dnata business.

Who cares who owns a third rate ground handler that can barely claim more than one or two major clients. All of our airlines can carry out ground handling if required and some do anyway. Never thought Aerocare was much chop anyway, good luck to Swissport, maybe they can make something of it.

What an exaggeration... the level of Chinese investment in total in Australia is minuscule when compared to the United Kingdom and the United States... both of whom are by a long way, our largest foreign investors. But I guess they're not Chinese so we're not worried about them taking over.
