Does anyone know of a good life insurance for us poor pilots?

I have a policy at the moment but it's linked to membership of APC which I'm considering not to renew.

I almost never use the APC card anymore but had visitors in DXB recently and was embarrassed when the card was refused twice in the space of one week! Both times golf related while platinum card was accepted

Thanks alot for any info regarding Life Insurance - Please don't turn into another APC bashing thread.

For info with AirCrew Protection International (former LIPS), on top of the existing 100,000 USD life insurance, every additional 120 USD a year you are covered for an additional 100,000 USD in case of death and this includes PWRT (Passive War Risk and Terrorism)...since we fly to Iraq, Afghanistan etc.

Basically from the existing 100,000 USD a "top up" to 400,000 USD can be reached with payment of 120 USD x 4 = 480 USD per year.

Many other life insurance too are available in the market of course....

I just moved to Zurich from Top Cover, with the premium frozen for 15 years. Arranged via Mondial.

Thanks for the info. This insurance seems to be similar to the one through APC (in terms of price) - through OMAN Insurance Company. Except no benefit is payable for 'Passive Participation in War!

How does the premium compare with API - i.e. 120 USD per 100,000 USD of additional coverage and does it include the passive war participation (or equivalent)?

Thanks alot for your reply

If you go to the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and see which country are officially declared under War we find Iraq, Sudan, Afghanistan etc. and EK flies there.

Usually insurances do not cover anything if the event happen in war declared zones.

The PWRT meaning can e found on internet and EK pilots do need to be covered under PWRT too.

In fact Ek life insurance for pilot covers it as well as long as we are on duty and, of course, not taking any active action. That's why it is called Passive....

Hope you have read Kabul CCI pages regarding "possible unexploded ordnance on unpaved taxiways"........if you are not covered under PWRT whoever gets involved in any "such blast" caused by others in war declared countries will get zero.

Got it? Ask you lawyer.....

I think you've misunderstood. I was pointing out that the Oman Insurance (through APC) does not cover PWRT. I am looking for alternative insurance cover. SO yes, I've "Got it" and don't need a layer to explain thanks.

Last year APC covered war zones while on duty (for pilots and wives)....
Did the terms and conditions change, didn't have the time look into it yet...
