For thirty seven years I have borne the sense that the Commonwealth Cease Fire Monitoring Force played unwittingly into the hands of the Communist ZANU PF. This delivered one of the most beautiful countries in Africa into the brutal regime which has desecrated the nation. I was part of the team who became enchanted with the country and has since lamented its demise. It is to be hoped that there is an enlightened regime in the future.

Expecting nations who subscribe to a normal understanding of democracy wonder why, when they try to lay their norms on a "rogue" state, it doesn't take long for "One man, one vote, once" to arrive.

Regretfully, brutality is a prerequisite for dictators, else they would not be dictators for long. Look around the world, even with so called "democratic" nations, where the process is corrupted into a "democratic dictatorship" and any opposition is intimidated, murdered or worse, is endemic.

Rhodesia was a very beautiful and prosperous country, which must now try to re-enter the world community and take it's rightful place. Zimbabwe has the potential to be a model for all of Africa on how nations should be run.

IIRC Graham Young, sadly RIP, received the AFC for his work with that team.
