Didn't the original design for the Javelin I incorporate afterburners, but later had them removed as it actually flew slower in reheat?

There were lots of variants of the Javelin. It took more effort than the Tornado programme to make it work properly! The quote below is from an authority on the Javelin's history:

"The reheat-capable FAW.8 was limited to using reheat only at a minimum altitude; below that point engaging the reheat actually caused a loss of thrust (to the point where take-off could not be safely accomplished with reheat engaged). This was down to the engine's fuel pump - it fed fuel at a constant rate and only at high altitude was there sufficient excess capacity to allow fuel to be burned directly without causing a loss of cold thrust at the same time. "

Didn't it have a combat radius of around 165nm?

I do remember that when we took them on deployment with our Valiant Tankers we could out climb them and if we cleared them to go on ahead they were about 200 yds ahead after half an hour. Mind you they could not half go in the descent.
