Whaaaatt. ? OMG is this a nightmare

Another venue to find out what the problem is... she hasn't  figured that out through-
-Forums
-Drink nights at Swire mansions
-Freight Pilot drink nights
-HPE
-AOA negotiations

Was this move covered in the curriculum of the courses she just graduated from??

Anyone who says one word on this venue IS "INSANE". Look up the definition..:ugh:

Just what the  do you expect from this ?
If she is the only one that registers, maybe then she might get the picture..

It all Reeks of desperado antics. And it is.
Propaganda to the hilt. It amazes me how many pillocks fall for it, but then again this place has a majority of them, including the 2 777 OZZIE stc’s in support of the x2 SO rule. How is it the majority of Cx trainers haven’t resigned as of yet ? How dumb can you get ? The “custodians” of Cx culture

1. Seriously that little message is just pointless and is disgraceful. It's nothing to do with the LGBT thing, it's the fact that the company actually make it like a big deal when it's not. What about the other athletes from HK? Has CX done much for them? I had World Championship winning athletes having to pay for upgrade at the counter... and you never see Cathay sponsoring any other local sporting event other than the Rugby 7s (I think the horse race is also taken over by HKA)

2. Mgt obviously think the ARAPA issue is done and dusted, the HKPA Q&A will be used to sway those on it for 'yes' vote...

I think if anything can be learned, the last several years have been (from a management analysis perspective) a prime example of what NOT to do. And has been said will likely be used in textbooks some day of how to destroy a great organization.

Regardless of the hedging and speculation debacles (and I have no idea whether this is a form of money laundering or genuine losses), the airline has hit the pits of productivity decline while incurring cost increases. Most of this is due to incoherent rostering and lack of happy people where they need them (driven largely by the 'continuous reserve' concept which may SEEM to increase flexibility but in reality only collapses rosters--creating an unsolvable puzzle and more work for those overseeing rostering--while at the same time generating the inefficiencies of more peaks and valleys resulting in FTL timeout, increased sickness rates, and large overtime payments as well as from a customer perspective causing more unreliability in cancellations and delays).

AND interjecting uncertainty into the future. ARAPA could have been left well enough alone (as could have RPs and just about everything else). In fact, doing NOTHING would have resulted in a much more productive and happy work force than exists today. Everyone understands 'tough times' but these AREN'T 'tough times.' The airline biz is booming. People are IMHO being told falsehoods as an excuse to chisel away. Chiseling is a VERY bad thing to do; not unlike stiffing a waiter who actually DID go the extra mile for you--simply because you're a cheap bastage. Treating the help well is very important, and is a strong indicator of one's character.

Housing costs (and living costs) in HKG are high. No problem--plenty of opportunities for basings (and following the rules OF a base isn't particularly hard to do but you do have to do it). Yet these have been only used as a token presence (with perhaps an intent as a form of direct entry reserve if things get REALLY bad) and a fleeting carrot. Really COULD be a win-win. Yet somehow these have to be a win-lose to be viable ? WTF ?

In a functional time, contracts normally sit in the drawer with the players having only a vague knowledge of the specifics (knowing alot perhaps about a certain area that they need to in order to do their work, but for the most part being happy simply to show up for work, collect the money, and go home). There are OCCASIONAL glitches which demand mutual resolution--but these are usually worked out with a minimum of fuss. As it stands now, everyone knows about the minutia and every little detail and is basically using it as a club to hit each other with. And when provisions become too burdensome, they are simply ignored through interpretation or imposed away. Not unlike a messy divorce where husband and wife argue over the smallest things and manage to piss everything away in the process--including what might have been a wonderful relationship over many years (and rather than simply part ways over something that isn't working anymore do so filled with anger and resentment that didn't need to be there).

As a manager this is NOT what you want.

The problems and solutions have been well stated over and over. They are not listening and are unlikely to. Plan accordingly.

One works a great deal of one's life. At some point you have to figure out what you want out of life. If this ain't working for ya (or you can't make it work and be happy) it may be time to pull the pin. And if you're just getting started you might ask yourself do you REALLY want to face 20+ more years of this. For those riding it out and retiring soon or just getting started using the place to gain experience and ratings (not unlike a regional) with a plan to move on, more power to ya. Just be careful not to get suckered in and trapped thinking you can make things better than they are--or that future promises will actually come true. Everyone ELSE seems to be making money and booming, yet all we get is gloom and doom and proposed cuts. To me this seems insane.

"Quelle surprise" and from that very same email:

"As a Company, we want to be better at two-way communications with all our People – and especially those on the frontline. You will see more initiatives and changes coming in the next few weeks and months – these may be small, but they are incremental, and genuine attempts to improve the way we engage with our pilots.

We welcome your constructive feedback and ideas around how we can improve relations between the Company and our pilot community"

I suppose that is what they mean by imposing violations to my COS, without any discussion or negotiation. Well Anna, i'll help communicate with you also. Over the Holidays, while i'm on my 'rest and recuperation'. You people are UNBELIEVABLE. Either you are the most cynical and sarcastic management of all time, or you are the most utterly tone-deaf and delusional management of all time: which is it? Seriously, anybody that is intending on risking their careers with people this block-headed deserves the career they end up with. Run away now, while you still have your sanity and the chance of a real career elsewhere. This place is finished as an employer of professional aircrew. What a farce.

You have to love CX management. Institute a ridiculous attempt at 'communication', then, when you don't like what's being communicated, effectively CENSOR it to display only those messages deemed 'suitable'. Guess what AT/RH, the messages you find so 'offensive' and 'distasteful' are what are commonly known as THE TRUTH. You obviously prefer being the 'King with no clothes'. The reason there is such vitriol directed towards you is because of your behaviour, tone and intent. And btw, just because you aren't reading it anymore online, don't doubt that every single pilot in this airline agrees and supports every comment you have had deleted.

SLIDO = Swire Lies In Descending Order

Pucka
1st Nov 2017, 12:39
I find it a paradox that a company such as Swires, built on strong Unitarian values and moulded by the power of its future Billionaire siblings, employs such little organic virtue from its past. John Swire, brother of Adrian and keen conservationist ( he died last November.. very little reported in the Journal as opposed to the Swire News, who did a page lead on him as a sort of obituary, substantiating his corporate fairness and the importance of his group to both lead by example and value its employees..), was a partisan and honest member of his tribe. Peter Sutch to a degree was both a protégée and a mentoree of Sir John's. So what went wrong? As the wavelets of dissent lick the ankles of middle management and the Corporate emperors begin to realise that resting on non thorny laurels was an ill gotten comfort whilst the LCC's began to de hitch the train, has the free reign for CX just gone a mile too far? Where salvation should have been in the form of a cloned Dixon or Walsh, we saw the emergence of a really nice and cuddly Swire chap, ( with a name right out of an Enid Blyton review), but with little ability to rehitch the carriages of the CX train. He would rather play into the hands of higher mentors who expect traditionalist principles of little change. Appointing a circus ring leader as head of human remains and enlarging his empire with almost free reign, creates the business of communication atrophy such as the likes of the Melissa communique…and the Saudi like censorship deal…I wonder if Merlin knows how his minion managers are fairing outside his Westminster property?..does he care?..but back to the virtues of old, where value and respect were garnered through mostly FairPlay and hard work; where the latter flourished on the respect we had for the return of good governance, management honesty and third floor pilots who deserved our respect.
Esse quam videri…to be, rather than to seem..its a moto as deep as our brand but sadly, not one of us probably right up to the ninth floor recalls its origin, purpose or reason..maybe it should now become..Esse Videri quam..?..all our managers seem..they rarely do..they function not for the common cause but the furtherance of kudos.. ego and corporate rank.. the GMF has bought his command through doing..well..doing absolutely nothing..he joins rank with the plastic knodding dog at the back of the old Cortina.. the night of the long 600 knives resulted in what exactly??..lower cost re appointments? Certainly no clearing of the lower or even upper corporate cupboards.. where the sell by dates remain expired.. the taste a little more toxic as their mould remains..pretty much the same. We heard the call for unity..ideas and substantiating those cuts.. but we heard little from those who sit smugly behind the trenches..waiting for that gaseous wind to blow the bonus ever so much closer to home..lets just hope there is enough mustard left in that zephyr to hit the back of their throats as they see the train finally run off the rails..the sad matter is..it was OUR train..not even theirs..

Excellent thoughts however as "me here long time", the first thing that went through my mind after reading your submission was an old "love gone wrong" song by Carole King; "It's Too late Baby"..
What CX "was" is gone, done and dusted..
There's simply just too much of the rot and mould you describe festering amongst the entire management structure, in particular the management relevant to us as a group.. the quiet "lead from behind" cowards.
I, truly wish I had the wordsmith skills you display where I could accurately articulate the parade of buffoons that have lead us to this place in our history...I do not.

"What CX was" (from the customer's perspective):
- great all over traveling experience
- leader in product and service (most importantly inflight)
- charming Asian crews providing extraordinary service

What CX is today:
- average traveling experience (compared to competition) with extraordinary delays (more on KA than CX though)
- following trends that other airlines set (by the time they are implemented in CX/ KA, the competition has come up with ever improving products and services)
- Mainly Hong Kong Chinese crew doing efficient jobs
- obvious unhappy front line employees (mainly due to noon appreciation by management; re: salary cuts etc).
- the industry's laughing stock due to the terrible errors in fuel and currency hedging by management, creating unbelievable losses that employees and customers are now paying for
- run by Swire Group inbreds (look at the CV's of ALL members of management; they have never been anywhere else than in Swire/ CX)

What CX will be in future (if no new outside blood is brought into management):

Nothing against HKG people but the Canto way of doing things just doesn't mix well with a good service culture. Everything in this town must be rushed, quick, efficient and perceived to be cheap (although everything is overpriced as we all know).

In less than 10 years our former CEO Philip Chen turned this grand airline with cabin crew from several Asian countries into "Mongkok Airways" by only hiring Canto crew.

Back in the day our passengers used to enjoy the business class service whilst nowadays our cabin crew are pushed to rush the meal service so they can quickly put the shades down and finish up - even on a 12 hour day flight.

On a very basic level, how could you name your new venture ‘Sildo’ with a bunch of pilots around and expect it not to go South ?

Perhaps ‘Pilot Enlightening News Infomation Source’ would have worked better.

Trafalgar
2nd Nov 2017, 20:25
On an even more basic level, why would you set up a private forum to 'elicit commentary', not expecting us to tell you exactly what we think and why? Are you really that naive? Even more tellingly, is how quickly you shut it down when you weren't getting the answers you expected. The fact that you obviously expected other than what you received is mind-boggling. What part of the lowest possible approval rating in EVERY area of your operation don't you get AT? The only positive respondents were other management sycophants. You are living close to the edge of disaster, and if you don't pull back soon, you will trigger the most epic collapse of an airline in the modern era. Nearly EVERY pilot is planning on leaving/retiring early. Future events will prove that point.
